The Spirit of Fundraising
There are hundreds of ways that those in the community choose to raise funds for Kirkwood Hospice. Working as Paranormal Investigators for over forty years - and hosting their own fundraising events since 2014 - Pauline and George Day have raised an amazing amount.
Pauline Day and her husband, George, from Netherthong have been working as mediums for over forty years. Hosting their own Paranormal Investigation fundraising events since 2014, the couple have raised an amazing £4,200 for Kirkwood Hospice.
Usually lasting for around five hours, the psychic events have been hosted in a variety of local and well-known Kirklees locations including Shibden Hall, Lawrence Batley Theatre and even Huddersfield’s Train Station.

As well as newcomers, George and Pauline have attracted a regular following over the years and are well-known throughout West Yorkshire - even performing on BBC Radio Leeds each Halloween.
The couple’s success is ever-growing and they have ten events planned this year, the first of which took place back in April and brought in £285.
In 2017 alone, Pauline and George raised £2,046.39 for the Hospice through their unique events.
Their personal connection with Kirkwood comes through Pauline's sister and a friend who both received care from the Hospice at the end of their lives.
Pauline said: “Both my sister and my friend passed at Kirkwood, so we immediately thought of the Hospice to raise funds.
“We go into all sorts of lovely old buildings and do our work as mediums. In the past we have visited Shibden Hall, Bolling Hall, the Huddersfield Train Station and even Lawrence Batley Theatre. Some buildings are old and some modern – but we believe they all have spirits.
“Our events usually take a group of between 20 and 25 people, or if it’s a smaller group about 10 people. We do a talk and then we go off into groups, work tables and get everyone involved as mediums.”
Community Fundraiser, Nicola Barber was duly impressed with a recent session she attended on behalf of Kirkwood, and congratulated Pauline and George on their generous fundraising efforts.
She said: “Pauline and George do such a good job at their events and it’s so nice to go along and see what they’re up to. There’s a really good group of people that come together for a great evening.”
