Two exciting new The Kirkwood Shops are opening in Mirfield

The Kirkwood is set to transform its retail presence in Mirfield with the launch of two new exciting shops, firstly a new superstore opening on the Friday 29th May 2026, which is bringing together two existing shops to create a vibrant, modern shopping destination in the heart of the town. We are also opening a dedicated Kids Shop in the town on the 2nd June 2026 which will specifically sell items of clothing, toys and books plus much more for kids of all ages to enjoy. 

Firstly on the Superstore, this major development will see the current Mirfield furniture store reimagined into a spacious, open-plan retail environment, significantly enhancing the experience for customers and supporters alike. The ground floor area will be transformed into a bright and welcoming shop floor, offering an extensive range of clothing that will change with the seasons, ensuring there is always something new for visitors to discover. 

As part of this transformation, the existing Mirfield clothing shop will merge into the new superstore, creating a much larger and more diverse retail offer. By combining both spaces, The Kirkwood will be able to showcase a wider variety of stock, improve accessibility, and provide a more enjoyable browsing experience for customers. 

Upstairs, the store will continue to offer a fantastic range of furniture, bric-a-brac and larger household items, maintaining the much loved features of the current shop while complementing the new downstairs clothing space. The expansion will also allow for a greater volume of stock to be displayed at any one time, helping to maximise sales and reduce waste. Importantly, the new superstore will also become a central hub for donations in the Mirfield area supplementing our Sands Mill donation centre on Wakefield Road.  

Supporters will be able to drop off their pre-loved items more easily, helping The Kirkwood continue its mission of sustainability while generating vital income to support local patients and their families.

It allows us to showcase more stock, provide a better shopping experience, and ultimately generate more income to support the patients and families we care for.

Moving on to The Kirkwood's newest retail concept in Mirfield with the opening of its very first dedicated kids shop, this will bring a fresh, family focused shopping experience to the town centre. Taking over the current small clothing shop in Mirfield, the store will undergo a full transformation and rebrand, creating a bright, engaging and welcoming space designed especially for children and families.  

 

While the location will remain the same, the new look and feel of the shop will mark a completely new chapter for the space. The shop will offer a wide and varied selection of items suitable for children of all ages, including toys, games, books, clothing and much more. By creating a dedicated space for children’s items, The Kirkwood is responding to both the demand from customers and the high-quality donations it receives, ensuring these items are showcased in the best possible way. 

This new venture represents an innovative step forward for The Kirkwood’s retail strategy, as the charity continues to explore new ways to diversify its offer, reach new audiences, and maximise income generation. It also creates an exciting opportunity for families to shop sustainably, find affordable items, and support a local cause at the same time.

Every item purchased in the new store will directly support The Kirkwood’s work across Kirklees, helping to provide specialist care and support for people living with life limiting illnesses, as well as their families.
