Hello! Thanks for taking the time to find out more about volunteering with Kirkwood Hospice.
Volunteering has been a part of the fabric of Kirkwood since the idea of a ‘Hospice for Kirklees’ was first conceived. Over the years, thousands of local people have offered their time and skills as volunteers, and the Hospice you see today is testament to the fantastic contribution they have made.
Currently, around 800 volunteers dedicate a total of 120,000 hours each year, helping us to provide palliative care to local people with life-limiting illnesses. But it doesn’t stop there! Our volunteers also provide additional support to families, friends and carers during their loved one’s illness and in bereavement.
Everyone associated with the Hospice knows only too well the real difference our volunteers make to the running of the Hospice; and it’s true to say…
'We simply couldn’t do what we do without them!'
Volunteering is set to become even more prominent within many areas of the care we provide, as well as in the support services and community-based activities that underpin it.
The great thing is, volunteering at Kirkwood is open to people of all ages and backgrounds. There’s a wide variety of roles on offer, which give Kirkwood volunteers the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives.
Whether at the Hospice, in one of our 21 charity shops located across Kirklees, at a local event, or as a member of one of our community-based Support Groups – however you choose to donate your time, you can be sure that you’ll be making a big difference to the lives of local people who rely on our services.
A little of your time can make a massive difference to what we can achieve here at Kirkwood Hospice!
And don’t forget, it’s not ‘all work and no play'! Volunteering with Kirkwood gives you the chance to meet new people and make new friends, join in volunteer celebration events, socialise with other members of your team. And if you stay with us long enough, you’ll even pick up a long-service award.
'Is it your time to make a difference?'
