The Kirkwood’s Mirfield Superstore enters an exciting new chapter.
For many people across Kirklees and surrounding areas, The Kirkwood’s Mirfield furniture shop, known for its spacious showroom and welcoming atmosphere, has been popular destination for shoppers looking for affordable home furnishings, from pre-loved sofas, living room suites, dinning furniture, bedframes with brand new discounted mattresses from our new goods and more, with every purchase made supporting the vital care The Kirkwood provide to the local community.

Earlier this year we announced our exciting news of ‘The Kirkwood’s Mirfield Makeover,’ an ambitious new chapter transforming both our little Mirfield shop into The Kirkwood’s Kids Shop, and our Mirfield Furniture Shop into a Superstore, where customers can find everything, they need all under one roof!

This Friday will mark the official opening of The Kirkwood’s brand new Mirfield Superstore, a major redevelopment that will transform the existing site into one of the charity’s most ambitious retail spaces to date.

While the popular upstairs furniture department remains at the heart of the store, customers will now also be able to explore a completely redesigned clothing, books and entertainment space located on the lower ground floor offering an even wider range than ever before.

Previously used primarily for storage, the lower ground space has been reimagined into a bright, modern, and accessible shopping experience increasing the store’s capacity, The Kirkwood will be able to offer more donated goods for sale, helping to generate even greater income to support patients and families living with life limiting illnesses across Kirklees.



For David, who first joined The Kirkwood as a volunteer before becoming a permanent member of the team three years ago, the furniture department has always stood out for the quality of its stock. “People are often surprised by the quality of the furniture we sell. There can sometimes be misconceptions about charity furniture, but the reality is that we offer beautifully made, high quality pieces at a fraction of the price people might expect elsewhere. Very often, the furniture we sell is built to last a lifetime, and that’s something we’re really proud of.”

From sofas, wardrobes and dining tables to office furniture, recliners and statement pieces, the shop has built a loyal customer base by offering stylish and practical furniture for every room in the home. David believes the scale of the store is one of its greatest strengths, offering space to display the furniture properly and highlighting what’s available in a layout that customers appreciate. Combined with free parking in a convenient central location on the Mirfield Highstreet, the shop has become a favourite for returning customers from across the region and with the addition of opening up the lower ground level for retail, that experience is set to grow even further.



The Kirkwood’s Mirfield Superstore will offer customers the opportunity to browse fashion, homeware, and donated goods alongside the established furniture department, creating a true one stop shop for sustainable, affordable shopping.

For Lisa, who has worked with The Kirkwood for the past two years, says the transformation has been a proud moment for the team. “It will be amazing to see the downstairs space transformed from what I’ve only ever known as storage into a whole new shopping area. Having clothing, furniture and homeware all in one place will create such a fantastic shopping experience and make it a real destination for people visiting Mirfield.”

She also believes the store’s success comes from the care and pride the team puts into creating a welcoming environment for customers. “We hear so many people say that it doesn’t feel like a typical charity shop, often commenting on how clean, tidy and well-presented it is.”

That diligence to the customer experience will continue throughout the new Superstore, with both floors designed to feel spacious, welcoming, and enjoyable to explore, but for the team behind the project, the redevelopment is about far more than retail growth. Every purchase and donation made in store directly helps fund The Kirkwood’s specialist care and support services for local families.
