Whether you work in a hospital, the community or a care home, you can access telephone advice from The Kirkwood's specialist nursing and medical team 24 hours a day, every day.
The team can help with a variety of problems, such as:
- How to manage uncontrolled pain and other symptoms like nausea, vomiting and terminal restlessness
- How to convert from oral to subcutaneous doses of analgesia
- Whether a syringe driver may be required
- How to support distressed family members
In most cases, a member of our nursing team working on the in-patient unit will be able to help you. If the problem requires medical advice, the team will liase with the doctor on duty in the Hospice or on-call.
During working hours (Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm) you will be put through to a member of our Community Specialist Palliative Care Team.
Between 4.30pm and 8.30am, Monday to Friday and 24 hours at weekends and on Bank Holidays, you will be put through to a member of the In-Patient Unit clinical team.
