Rowley Lane School pull out all the Stops for Kirkwood’s Midnight Memory Walk

Rowley Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School back Kirkwood Hospice’s Midnight Memory Walk by designing mile markers to display at this year’s event.

The school based in Lepton have been involved with an exciting arts project this term to support Kirkwood’s Midnight Memory Walk held on Saturday 23rd June 2018.

Co-ordinated by Arts Co-ordinator, Louise Dennis, and Head and Assistant Head, Jenny Shore and Judy Haigh, pupils from across the whole school were involved with designing ‘mile markers’ to display at this year’s event.

The children were given a brief to design bright and colourful signs to display along route to show walkers how far they have come and give messages of encouragement.

A handful of Y6 children helped pull together the final designs and winners from across years four, five and six have been chosen.

Rowley Lane are long-standing supporters of the Hospice and were selected to run the competition after the 10 mile route was announced it would pass the school.

With the walk passing the school, Rowley Lane have nominated themselves as a water and toilet station to be used en route.

Headteacher, Jenny Shore, said: “All the children contributed such wonderful designs so it was really tricky to choose the winners.

“Rowley Lane get involved with a lot of Kirkwood Hospice activities and have been supporting for a number of years.

“We have a long-standing link and in the past the children have been involved with the Share-A-Card Christmas designs as well singing at the Hospice.

“When we announced the competition, some of the children already knew about the Midnight Memory Walk and take part with their families every year. Kirkwood is our local Hospice in the area so we are happy to support.”
