Andy5000 or Mr Incredible?

Kirkwood Hospice Ambassador Andy Wright, aka Andy5000Miles, is currently in the middle of a mammoth 5-year mission to run 5,000 miles in 5 years, to raise funds, and awareness, for the Hospice. For his next race, Andy has decided to run as Mr Incredible.

Due to a couple of minor injuries, Andy is currently unable to run at full pace, but that hasn’t stopped him recently completing the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Unfortunately, Andy further injured his knee during that race, but rather than drop out of his next challenge, the Leeds Half marathon on Sunday 13th May, Andy simply decided to run it in fancy dress.

Andy said: “I had hoped that the Leeds half would be an opportunity to run a personal best time this year, but due to injury, I’ve been advised that if I am stupid enough to still run, I should ease back on the pace to reduce the chances of making the injury worse.

“This has made me rethink my goal for this particular race, and I decided that it was an ideal opportunity to draw as much attention to myself, and therefore Kirkwood, as possible, by wearing something which makes me hard to miss on the day.

“I’ll be running the race dressed as Mr Incredible Dad, inspired by the famous Incredibles movie. I’ve bulked up a bit with a fat suit to make it a bit more realistic, so I could really so with perfect conditions, cool and dry!

"If it’s a warm day then it’s going to be an extremely hot costume, and if it rains, it may retain the water and become heavy! Whatever happens, I’m hoping it’ll be a lot of fun, and hope to get a lot of photos taken and much more social media exposure than I would ordinarily expect”.
