Wrestling for Kirkwood raises vital funds for Kirkwood Hospice
UK Wrestler, Dominic Richardson, recently held a wrestling evening to raise vital funds for Kirkwood in loving memory of his wife, Carrieanne Richardson. Wrestlers from Kirklees and beyond came together to fight for a cause and the evening raised a staggering £1,056 for patient care.
On Saturday 17th November, wrestlers from around the country came together for a night of heavy impact wrestling to raise vital funds for Kirkwood Hospice.
The evening was held in memory of Dominic’s wife, Carrieanne Richardson, who was cared for at the end of her life by Kirkwood. Carrieanne passed away on the 7th August 2014 after being admitted to Kirkwood Hospice’s In-Patient Unit at the end of July 2014.
The event saw over 100 local wrestling fans come together to raise over £1,000 for Kirkwood, including family, friends and children and parents from St. Ignatius school in Ossett.
Wrestlers travelled from Liverpool and Rotherham to fight and prove their dominance in memory of Carrieanne.

Carrieanne’s family also held a raffle, tombola and auction to boost funds for Kirkwood on the night and her mum, Michelle, went the extra mile by shaving her head in honour of her daughter.
Dominic said: “I was worried on the day because I had full responsibility of organising it. But all went well on the night, the matches went down brilliantly and around 70% of the audience had never seen wrestling before. All the children that attended really enjoyed it.
“Thank you to all the wrestlers, workers, tech crew, staff, audience and everyone who donated.”
Dominic is a keen wrestler and has followed the sport since he was 8 years old; deciding to take up the hobby in 2015 in the lead up to the first anniversary of Carrieanne’s death.
8 months ago, Dom began organising the fundraising event as a tribute to his wife.

Within one hour of announcing the event, Dom had over 30 wrestlers offer their support for the night, with those involved also helping to support the planning of the event.
Community Fundraiser, Lyndsey Wroe, who attended the event last month, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Dominic and the family for raising such an amazing amount for Kirkwood. If it wasn’t for people like Dom, we wouldn’t be able to continue to care for people affected by any life limiting illnesses in Kirklees.”
“It was a great night, well done to all involved!
