Kirkwood Hospice tops votes for a space on Huddersfield’s Monopoly Board
Kirkwood Hospice has been revealed as the very first space ‘Passing GO’ on the brand new Monopoly board for the town of Huddersfield.
Kirkwood easily topped a public poll to appear on the board just pipping Felix the Railway Cat (who came second) and Castle Hill (third) to make it onto the board in a leading position.
Kirkwood Hospice staff celebrate their space on the board
It will get to star on a Community Chest space all of its own.
The new game will hit shops this October in time for this Christmas.
Kirkwood cares for and supports people affected by life limiting illnesses in Huddersfield and across Kirklees wherever it is needed - at the Hospice, in people’s homes, and out in communities - helping to make a positive difference to quality of life.
News of the very first space to be announced on the board has brought whoops of delight from the Hospice team who ran a “great” campaign to get on the board, say the makers of the game Winning Moves UK.
Kirkwood Hospice Chief Executive, Michael Crowther, said today:
“We are absolutely delighted to feature on Huddersfield’s very own Monopoly board. It’s a real honour also to be the very first space announced!

"A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us and to Winning Moves UK for this wonderful opportunity. It’s great that we are on a ‘priceless’ space – we certainly feel priceless and honoured with all the support we get.
“As a local charity that cares for thousands of people across Huddersfield and Kirklees, we are delighted to have topped the poll. It’s amazing to think so many people from our community have chosen to support us in this way.
“Our team work tirelessly to provide the very best care and support for local people affected by life limiting illnesses and this is a real endorsement of their hard work.
“I am sure everyone with a connection to Huddersfield will be eager to get hold of Monopoly this Christmas.”

The makers of the new official game today extended their congratulations too.
"A huge congratulations to Kirkwood who ran a great campaign - and many thanks to everyone who voted," says Afolabi Omotola, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, makers of the board under official license from Hasbro.
“The charity will feature on a Community Chest space – we feel this is an appropriate position on the board, with Kirkwood being such an integral and very big part of the Huddersfield community.”
As well as town landmarks appearing on the property spaces made famous in the original London game, every location - from Mayfair to Park Lane - most of the Chance and Community Chest cards will be heavily Huddersfield themed too.
In all, three charities will feature on the board and a total of 32 Huddersfield landmarks and favourites will ‘Pass GO’.
