“A Good Cause” at Kirkwood’s Colour Rush

Every year, Kirkwood’s Colour Rush showers the community with vibrant colours all for a good cause. Last Sunday, 1,000 local Kirkwood supporters came together to get covered from head-to-toe in brightly coloured paint and to raise thousands towards care for patients and their families with any life limiting illness in Kirklees.

As participants continue to wash away the paint after the weekend, Kirkwood takes a look back at some of the stories from the most colourful fundraising event of the year.

Here are some of their stories…

Philippa Crowther was attending the Colour Rush for the second time with her whole family including Mum, Judy Crowther, sisters Hayley and Clemy and her eight-year-old nephew, Lucas.

Pippa is a dedicated volunteer at Kirkwood’s charity shop in Newsome, and got involved with the Hospice through the time she spends at the Connect Day Centre in Newsome, which caters for adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.

Pippa also has a personal connection.

She said: “I do the Colour Rush because it’s a really good cause and also because of my friend, Betty Brooke, whose son died at the Hospice.

“She is very special to me; she’s a very special friend. We’re looking forward to the Family Fun Day this year too, especially because of Lucas.”

Sister, Clemy, added: “It’s a good day out for the whole family. Our sister, Hayley is taking photos today too!”

Stephanie, Rachel, Chloe and Scarlett.

Friends Rachel Rawson and Stephanie Johnson took part along with daughters Scarlett and Chloe, both aged nine.

Rachel’s family participated last year and this year she wanted to get involved too.

She said: “They all absolutely loved it last year so I wanted to take part this year. The girls are having lots of fun!
