Zip Wire Team reach new Heights for Kirkwood Hospice

A group of family and friends take on the fastest Zip Wire in the world in honour of much-loved Dionne Coburn - raising a whopping £10,027 for the Hospice.

Back in November last year, a team of devoted fundraisers travelled down to Wales for an adrenaline-filled extreme challenge.

After Dionne Coburn was cared for by Kirkwood Hospice, her sister, Mandy Lindley, organised a group of 27 loving friends and family to take on the crazy Zip World Velocity Challenge - the fastest Zip Wire in the world – in tribute to Dionne.

Dionne was diagnosed with terminal cancer around 12 months ago and spent the final four weeks of her life at the Hospice. In appreciation of the excellent care she received, Dionne’s family decided to take on this challenge to raise money for a tribute fund, which has been set up to celebrate Dionne’s life.

Following their monumental fundraising effort at the Zip Wire challenge, the group have raised a staggering £10,027 in sponsorship for the Hospice, which will be allocated to Dionne’s tribute fund.

The family now hope to see the Dionne Coburn Tribute Fund continue to develop and grow in the future each time friends and family fundraise for Kirkwood in Dionne’s memory.

Mike Coburn, Dionne’s husband, is overwhelmed at the donations received and is extremely grateful to the Hospice for the care and support his wife received.

He said: “Kirkwood Hospice provided us with great care. Not just for Dionne, but for all our family. Members of the family could stay with Dionne overnight and we were able to spend as much time as we wanted with her, which for us, was invaluable.”

“The Hospice was a home from home and as Dionne said herself, ‘a little bit of heaven’.”

Kirkwood Fundraiser, Wasim Hussain, is hugely thankful for the amazing fundraising efforts from the whole Zip Wire Team.

He said: “On behalf of everyone at Kirkwood Hospice, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dionne’s family and friends for this wonderful fundraising effort. To raise over £10,000 is a remarkable achievement.

“At Kirkwood, we rely heavily on the generosity of people taking part in fundraising events such as this. We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part in this challenge and to those who contributed through sponsorship. It is greatly appreciated.”
