The Kirkwood opens it’s award winning gardens to visitors
We are opening our spectacularly beautiful gardens up to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme on Saturday 31st July.
On Saturday 31st July, The Kirkwood will be opening our fantastic tranquil gardens based in Dalton up to the public for the first time ever to view. The gardens will be open from 10am to 3pm and organisers invite the local community to join them.
The event is taking shape as restrictions are freed up under the government roadmap. After a year of being unable to get out and about, this is a great chance to get out of the house and spend some time in the lovely fresh air and view some stunning nature in The Kirkwood Gardens.
On the day refreshments will be available and there will also be a chance to purchase a variety of plants and gardening tools plus gardening related books to help raise vital funds for the charity. There will also be a kiddies trail Floral related bric a brac.
The Kirkwood Gardens are award winning, having won GOLD for several years in the renowned Yorkshire In Bloom awards. The Kirkwood also jointly won the Charitable Establishments category along with Barnsley Hospice in 2019. Our dedicated volunteer gardening teams do an exceptional job at maintaining the gardens all year round for many to enjoy.
The gardens also provide patients who are admitted onto the In-Patient Unit, and their families, the chance to spend time together making memories in a peaceful environment.
The In-Patient Unit includes a private terrace for each room that overlooks the gardens and many find comfort in sitting out and taking in the scenery.
The Kirkwood Volunteer Gardeners have been working hard over the last few months to bring the gardens back to life following lockdown, and developing new areas such as The Wildflower Lawn, Allotment and Chef's Garden.
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to private gardens across the country, helping to raise thousands each year for local charities like The Kirkwood.
We would love to see as many people visiting the stunning gardens as possible on July 31st.
