The Kirkwood Gardens are a tranquil place loved by patients and their families along with our teams, supporters and volunteers. As part of the National Open Garden Scheme, we are delighted to be able to welcome you all to join us on Saturday 21st June to see what makes our gardens so special.

Our Garden is wheelchair accessible with ramps into the building with accessible toilets.
Guide Dogs and Family Pets are also welcome and must be always kept on a lead.
Refreshments will be available on the day, including freshly cooked food from our BBQ, and cakes donated by our wonderful supporters, washed down with a selection of hot and cold drinks.
Enjoy perusing the stalls and plants for sale, try your luck on our raffle, enter our tombola, donate to help our volunteer gardening team continue their work, creating a safe and serene space for our in-patients and their families to enjoy, or simply join us for a coffee and cake while soaking up the atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.
Our multiple GOLD Yorkshire in Bloom award winning garden provides patients and families to spend time together, making memories and relaxing with loved ones. Many of our patient rooms enjoy views which overlook our gardens A private terrace outside each room allows our patients and their families to enjoy the outdoor space and find comfort in the peaceful surrounds.
Our Volunteer Gardeners have been working hard over the last few months to bring our gardens back to life following the cold winter months and are constantly developing new areas of our grounds. So even if you've visited us before, there is always something new to see!
From a tiny seed in 1981, the idea of a hospice for Kirklees sprouted, and from those humble beginnings rooted in community spirit grew The Kirkwood, established in 1987, and has since blossomed over the last 38 years, spanning the breadth of Kirklees, supporting anyone living with life-limiting illness and their families, not only at our base in Dalton but also in the homes and care homes of those that need us.
The National Open Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to private gardens across the country, helping to raise thousands each year for local charities like The Kirkwood. We are delighted to be featured in the National Garden Scheme book.
