The Kirkwood comes together for Ramadan
As Ramadan comes to a close in the next week, we wanted to again remind people that they can donate to our Ramadan campaign. The Kirkwood believes it is here for anyone who is living with life limiting illnesses in Kirklees.
This year, we're calling on the Kirklees community to support our vital work by making a donation during the holy month of Ramadan.
Life is full of unpredictable twists and turns, and when faced with the challenge of a life limiting illness, every moment becomes precious. The Kirkwood understands the uncertainty and fear these situations bring. That's why, this Ramadan we stand by our belief - everyone deserves the very best care, no matter who you are and where you are from. The Kirkwood is here for you, offering a pillar of strength through every challenge.
During our campaign, we have spoken to two imams who told us what Ramadan means to the Muslim faith and how and why the Muslim community should support The Kirkwood.
Firstly, Imam Aslam Seedat commented: “Ramadan is a blessed month, and the virtues of fasting are immense. It’s a month of spiritual upliftment and a wonderful experience of generosity, brotherhood and forgiveness.
“Ramadan is the month of giving; Muslims always try to be generous and the amount of generous people I encounter is huge. Muslims donate to different causes like The Kirkwood in the month of Ramadan.
“It's an opportunity for The Kirkwood to engage with the wider community. It's about showcasing the beauty of fasting and the concept of thinking about the poor and most vulnerable.
“The Kirkwood provides an important service to the community. As part of the Islamic faith, it is about caring, being compassionate and supportive of any institution that helps the ill and vulnerable. Our Prophet Muhammad helped people from all communities and encouraged Muslims to do so as well.
“Ramadan is about coming together and supporting one another. It’s about understanding and respecting each other too.”
Meanwhile, Imam Ilyas Dallal added: “For me, Ramadan is a time to rejuvenate my spiritual battery, it's a time for personal introspection as well as having an opportunity to break fast with family and the community. It's a month where we can seek Allah’s forgiveness with the hope of receiving his Mercy.
“It's very nice to see that Ramadan is being recognised by The Kirkwood as this will give them the opportunity to understand this sacred ritual and that The Kirkwood is open for all kinds of people irrespective of their faith or cultural background.
“Historically, Muslim communities have not relied upon hospices for care. Instead, they get their own family members to care for them at home. However, as the UK's older Muslim citizens end up living with a broader spectrum of life limiting illnesses, they may become more reliant on hospices like The Kirkwood's end of life services."
