Pool Tournament raises £300 for Kirkwood

Local pool players picked up their cues for a special event in the run up to Christmas, as they raised money for Kirkwood.

Members of the Kirkburton Pool League were invited to take part in a Christmas Knockout competition hosted by The Ashfield on Wakefield Road, Lepton with all proceeds being donated to the Hospice.

The festive knockout tournament has become an annual event for members of the Kirkburton Pool League, and this year they raised an impressive £300.

In a tight and evenly fought knockout contest, the coveted trophy was eventually hoisted by David Crosland, with Austin Roddy finishing the evening as a worthy runner up.

The event was organised by Steve Weatherby and Mick Butterfield.

Mick was on hand to present the cheque and was pleased that the tournament was supporting the Hospice for Kirklees again.

Mick said: “Kirkwood Hospice is very close to many people within the Kirkburton Pool League.

“It was a pleasure to be able to raise money for such a good cause and in memory of Sarah Louise Brooke.

“We have raised more this year than we did the year before, which is really pleasing.”

As well as the tournament, money was raised on the evening from a raffle and other entertainment.

Kirkwood Hospice’s Media and Marketing Manager, Jim Coward, was delighted to be able to collect the cheque on behalf of the Hospice.

Jim said: “It’s always a pleasure to meet local groups and supporters who go above and beyond to support Kirkwood.

“A big thank you goes to the members of the Kirkburton Pool League and everyone at the Ashfield for their amazing support. It makes a real difference to our patients and their families. We are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”
