Our Volunteers Stories- Caroline and Natalie

Caroline and Natalie Adams's friend Ken devastatingly died in The Kirkwood a number of years ago, since then mother and daughter have taken part in our Midnight Memory Walk and Caroline fantastically volunteers in our Holmfirth shop.

Both women were invited to our volunteers celebration party earlier this week and it gave them time to reflect on their journey with The Kirkwood.

Caroline said: "I volunteer in the Holmfirth shop where we live, I do all sorts in the shop from working on the till to pat testing.

"I love meeting people who come into the shop whether that be customers or other volunteers or The Kirkwood staff. We try to keep the shop looking clean and nice and we always have a laugh, it's a very happy atmosphere in there.

"I had a friend called Ken that died here, I had always toyed with the idea of volunteering for the charity and so one day just decided to sign up."

Caroline and Natalie have both taken part in our amazing annual Midnight Memory Walk and both agree it's a fantastic event the people should sign up for.

Natalie said: "We did the Midnight Memory Walk for many years and loved doing it, obviously due to Covid we couldn't carry on and this year we aren't doing it. However it is a really fantastic event and something we really enjoyed doing when we took part in it.

"We used to do it religiously and tried to beat the time we did it in the previous year over the ten miles. It is a really fun event, it always surprises us how well attended the event is.

"We would definitely encourage people to sign up and take part in it."
