Local Salon Host Ball to be Envious of in aid of Kirkwood Hospice

Back in autumn last year, Dewsbury-based hair and beauty salon, Envious, hosted a special Ball to raise a massive £1,800 for Kirkwood Hospice.

Last September, fundraisers and proud supporters of the Hospice, Envious hair and beauty salon, based in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, hosted their very own Black and White themed Ball in aid of Kirkwood Hospice.

Smartly-dressed friends, family, Envious customers and members of the local community were invited to join the celebrations held at the Heath Cottage Hotel in Earlsheaton.

Guests were treated to a three course meal, canapés, a disco and a goodie bag to take home at the end of the night.

As an extra fundraiser on the night, tickets were also sold for a raffle and a sit down bingo, helping to boost the coffers further. One lucky winner even claimed a holiday to Lanzarote!

Event Organiser, Leon Breheney, at a recent cheque presentation with Kirkwood Hospice's Partnership Development Manager, Kate Leadbeater.

Leon Breheney organised the event and was delighted by its success and keen to thank everyone for their support.

“Everybody really enjoyed it and a lot of people gave up their own time to help. Suppliers gave us free products for the goodie bags and people donated prizes for the raffle so everybody came together.

“Monica, who owns the Heath Cottage Hotel, let us have the venue for a discounted rate and the DJ came for free. We can’t thank everybody enough.”

Organisers Leon and his husband, Ben Breheney, have a personal connection to Kirkwood and are keen to support the charity in as many ways as possible.

Leon said: “The Ball was in honour of Ben’s mum who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer five years ago and went quite quickly from diagnosis to end of life, which she spent in Kirkwood. We really can’t thank them enough for what they did for us.

“Ben and Jayde, who both work at Envious, did a skydive for Kirkwood. I’m not as adventurous as them but I wanted to do something to raise money. I thought, well I can throw a party. So I did!

“I wanted to raise not only money, but awareness too because you don’t see as much for Kirkwood in Dewsbury. I think people see it as more of a Huddersfield-based thing but it’s not. We want to get that support out there and let people know that Kirkwood Hospice is our chosen charity so we can try and raise as much money as possible.”

Envious are part of the Kirkwood Hospice Business Buddies Scheme, which offers support and promotion to local companies while providing them with a platform to engage with the Hospice’s supporters. As part of this scheme, businesses often host their own fundraising efforts in aid of Kirkwood, such as that undertaken by the Envious team.

Following the success of last year’s Ball, amongst other events, Envious have already got plans for their next Ball in the pipelines; a Halloween Masquerade Ball later this year.
