Klass in Batley backs The Kirkwood during hospice care week
A Batley fashion retailer is showing its support for The Kirkwood this Hospice Care Week, helping to raise vital funds and awareness of the difference hospice care makes to local people and families.
Klass, based at The Mill in Batley, is joining stores across the country in supporting local hospice care as part of Hospice Care Week, which runs from 5th to 11th October 2026.
Led nationally by Hospice UK, this year’s Hospice Care Week carries the message “Don’t leave hospice care to chance”, highlighting the importance of ensuring everyone can access the care and support they need towards the end of life.
Hospice care is there not only for people living with life limiting illnesses, but also for their families and those closest to them. Yet hospices rely heavily on the generosity of their local communities to continue providing this vital support.
As part of its support, Klass stores across the UK have each nominated a local hospice to benefit from fundraising taking place between Monday 5th and Sunday 18th October.
Here in Kirklees, the Klass store in Batley has chosen to support The Kirkwood. Customers visiting the store will be able to purchase a £2 raffle ticket, with the chance to win a £250 Klass voucher donated by the retailer. Every penny raised through ticket sales in the Batley store will be donated to The Kirkwood, helping to support local people affected by life limiting illness.
Nicol Hewitt, Store Manager at Klass in Batley, said the cause has a particularly personal meaning for the team: “We are very proud to be raising funds for The Kirkwood, as we have had staff, friends and customers who have needed this level of care. We understand that it is not only patients, but family members who get the support they need from The Kirkwood. The Kirkwood is very close to our hearts.”
Julia Owen, Community Fundraising Officer with The Kirkwood, added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Nicol and everyone at Klass in Batley for choosing to support The Kirkwood during Hospice Care Week. Support like this from businesses in our local communities makes such a difference, helping us to continue being there for people and families across Kirklees when they need us most.”

The support comes at an important time. Hospice UK reports that nearly one in three people do not receive the care they need at the end of their lives, while hospices across the country continue to face significant financial pressures.
For The Kirkwood, support from local businesses and their customers helps make it possible to continue providing specialist care for people across Kirklees when they need it most, while supporting their families and those closest to them.
The Kirkwood is a movement of people who believe everyone affected by a life limiting illness deserves the very best care and support. From those who give their time and raise funds to local businesses and communities who stand alongside us, every act of support helps The Kirkwood Support Life across Kirklees.
Throughout Hospice Care Week, Klass Batley is encouraging its customers to get behind the campaign, enter the raffle and help ensure local hospice care is there for people and families now and in the future. The Klass fundraising raffle runs from Monday 5th October until Sunday 18th October 2026 at its Batley store at The Mill. Tickets cost £2, with one winner receiving a £250 Klass voucher.
