Cheers to Bosun’s Brewery!

Bosun’s Brewing Company hold fundraising event in loving memory of Carol Jessop – raising an impressive £300 for Kirkwood Hospice.

On the evening of Friday 17th February 2017, Bosun’s Brewery, Horbury, was full to the brim as friends, family and beer-enthusiasts were invited to enjoy a drink with a difference.

Grahame Andrews, owner of Bosun’s Brewery, chose to organise a fundraising event in aid of Kirkwood Hospice following the death of his sister, Carol Jessop, who suffered from a brain tumour and sadly died at the Hospice in early January.

Bosun’s, along with Ossett Brewery, Ossett Round Table members and Wakefield Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) members, hosted an open night at the Brewery, inviting friends and family for an ‘all you can drink’ evening for a £10 entry fee.

On the night, there was an array of beer and sandwiches on offer as well as T-shirts and raffle tickets available to purchase, with raffle prizes being donated by the companies present at the event.

Bosun’s own ales on tap at the event included the King Neptune and the award-winning Maiden Voyage - the namesake of both stemming from Grahame’s naval past.

The ‘all you can drink’ theme was clearly taken to heart, with 2 casks (72 pints) drunk on the night!

Grahame was delighted at the success of the event and feels honoured to have had the opportunity to fundraise for the Hospice. He already has plans to support Kirkwood in the future.

He said: “Carol was diagnosed at the end of November last year and within just five weeks, she was gone. Visiting her at the Hospice, I just thought, ‘wow, this place is fantastic’. Not just for the care, tranquillity, calm and support provided to her, but to her whole family too.

“Kirkwood is a charity close to home and close to the heart. Everyone in Kirklees has been touched by the Hospice at some point or other. I feel so indebted to Kirkwood for the quality of care they gave to my sister, so I wanted to do something in Carol’s name, as something to remember her by.”

Kirkwood Hospice Community Fundraiser, Lyndsey Richardson, is touched by Grahame’s support for the Hospice and excited to see the Brewery’s plans for the future.

She said: “I am so excited to be working in partnership with Grahame and the team at Bosun’s and would like to thank everyone that came along to make the fundraising evening such a success.

“The funds raised will help us to care for more people in Kirklees, like Grahame’s sister Carol, and for that we are truly humbled.”
