100 Miles for Kirkwood Hospice

Chloe Newton-Mann, along with three members of her family, recently completed a 100 mile bike ride from Birdsedge to Scarborough to raise a wonderful £2,296.75 for Kirkwood Hospice. Chloe tells us why the fantastic foursome decided to take part in this unique event in aid of Kirkwood Hospice.

“On Monday 7th August, we took on what turned out to be a 100.3 mile challenge (after a little detour!) from Birdsedge to Scarborough Cricket Club to raise funds for Kirkwood Hospice in loving memory of my Grandma, Rosemary.

We chose to leave from Grandma's house in Birdsedge where she had lived all her married life. We decided to cycle to Scarborough because my Grandma, along with my Grandad, visited Scarborough cricket festival every year.

To think that between the four of us we had only managed to cycle around 100 miles before the big day, it was definitely going to be a challenge!

Grandma must have been looking over us as the sun shone all day making the bike ride slightly easier, however we definitely had some very sore bums, legs and backs the next day after 10 hours on the saddle.

"The Hospice was there for our family when we desperately needed their help. We took part in this event to raise money so that other families can benefit from the loving and compassionate care of Kirkwood." Chloe Newton-Mann

We wanted to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice because Grandma spent her final days there. Although it was a sad time, the Hospice made it just that little bit easier. They made my grandma a lot more comfortable and also took extremely good care of my Grandad.
