The role involves, engaging and, serving customers, arranging merchandise, processing sales transactions, preventing theft, ensure stock levels are maintained, keeping the sales floor neat and organised, and assisting customers to and from their vehicles with donations.
Depending on the location cleaning and moving furniture when required in line with Health & Safety requirements.
We are looking for volunteers who have:
- Numeracy & Literacy: Basic numeracy and literacy is required and the ability to feel comfortable handling cash and card payments
- Communication Skills: Able to speak clearly, listen effectively and the ability to resolve conflicts or queries with customers to a satisfactory conclusion
- Interpersonal Skills: Able to engage with customers, being professional, approachable, helpful, and friendly.
- Organisation Skills: Able to be methodical and systematic in how you work. Recognise the importance of being punctual, reliable and consistent demonstrating flexibility
- Motivation: Is genuinely committed to making a positive difference to people’s lives. Able to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the role.
- Teamwork: Understands the importance of volunteering as part of a team. Able to use initiative and act independently with the knowledge of knowing when to seek support. Display a high level of honesty and integrity

Locations:
The Kirkwood Shop - Cleckheaton: Monday 9am - 1pm and 1pm - 5pm, Tuesday 1pm - 5pm, Wednesday 1pm - 5pm, Thursday 9am - 1pm and1pm - 5pm, Firday 1pm - 5pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm and 1pm - 5pm
The Kirkwood Furniture Shop - Moldgreen: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 9 am - 1pm , 1pm - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm
The Kirkwood Shop - Kirkburton: Saturday 1pm - 5pm
The Kirkwood Shop - Lindley: Monday 1pm - 5pm, Thursday 1pm - 5pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm
Minimum suggested time commitment per week:
4 hours (to be determined by individual retail managers).

Volunteering at The Kirkwood
Volunteering with The Kirkwood is open to people of all ages and backgrounds. And the great thing is that a little of your time can make a massive difference to what we can achieve!
Volunteering has been a part of the fabric of The Kirkwood since the idea of a ‘Hospice for Kirklees’ was first conceived over 35 years ago. Over the years, thousands of local people have offered their time and skills as volunteers, and The Kirkwood you see today is a testament to the fantastic contribution they have made.
Everyone associated with The Kirkwood knows only too well the real difference our volunteers make to the running of our services, and it’s true to say we simply couldn’t do it without them!
And don’t forget, it’s not ‘all work and no play'! Volunteering with The Kirkwood gives you the chance to meet new people and make new friends, join in volunteer celebration events, socialise with other members of your team.

About The Kirkwood
The Kirkwood is a local Charity providing specialist care, free of charge, to adults in Kirklees living with life limiting illnesses in Kirklees.
We are a team of clinical and medical professionals, fundraisers, chefs, receptionists and cleaners. We are supporters and volunteers. We are patients, carers and families. We are a movement of people motivated by our shared vision to provide the very best care for the people of Kirklees.
Please note that only one reference is needed for our retail roles. This reference must come from an individual you have known for a minimum of 12 months.
Volunteers are required to complete on-line training and role specific training. Mentoring will be provided, for this role.
On–going supervision, training and development will continue throughout your volunteering with The Kirkwood and support is always available from the Retail Team and Volunteer Services
To keep up to date with requirements and legislation directly relevant to this role, some training will be repeated on an annual basis.
