About Make A Will Month
Making a Will isn’t an easy thing to think about. It can be a daunting prospect. Some people don’t know where to start. Some think it’s expensive, and others don’t think Wills are important. We want to change that.
Throughout October, we’re partnering with local professional Will Writers to help you create or update your Will for free*. It’s easy to arrange an appointment and your chosen professional Will Writer will guide you through the process at your appointment.
You don’t have to include a gift to The Kirkwood in your Will when taking part in our Make A Will Month, but we hope you’ll consider supporting our vital work. A gift of any kind will become a lifeline for local families, helping to improve their quality of life in ways that really matter, and helping our patients to make the most of every single day.
*If your Will is more complex, your chosen professional Will Writer will speak to you about any potential costs before your appointment.
How It Works
- Book your appointment: Choose a professional Will writer from our list at the bottom of this page and contact them to book a free Will appointment in October. Remember to mention “The Kirkwood’s Make a Will Month”.
- Write your Will: Attend your appointment and work with the professional Will writer to create or update your Will.
- Share your gift: Your professional Will writer will give you a form to let us know if you’ve included a gift or donation to The Kirkwood. We’d love to say thank you personally and show you the difference your generosity makes.
*If your Will is more complex, your chosen professional Will writer will speak to you about any potential costs before your appointment.
Making a Donation
We are so grateful to everyone who chooses to participate in our Make a Will Month campaign. By securing your legacy, you are taking a vital step for your loved ones.
The legal expertise you received is a gift, thanks to our incredibly generous professional Will Writers and Solicitors who are offering their time completely free of charge.
To honour their kindness and carry that generosity forward, we hope you'll consider making a donation to The Kirkwood instead of paying a fee. Your gift – whether it’s £50, £100, £200 or any amount that feels right – will help us continue providing vital, compassionate care to local people and their families when they need it most.

Leaving a Gift in your Will
Will you leave a lasting legacy for future generations by remembering The Kirkwood?
We know that making a will is a big decision, and we understand taking care of your family and loved ones first is the most important thing. After you have remembered those you care about, we hope you will also remember The Kirkwood.
A gift in your will can come in all different shapes and sizes. Every gift makes a real difference.
Whatever the size of your gift, you will be helping The Kirkwood to be here for anyone affected by a life limiting illness in Kirklees. Thanks to you, our dedicated team will continue to provide the best possible care for our patients, their families and those that care for them.
Every single gift left in a will makes such a difference to us. In fact, so much so that the generosity of individuals who remembered The Kirkwood by leaving a legacy to the charity helps us to fund care for around 1 in 5 patients.
You can read about the different types of gifts you could leave here.
