Dedicate your flowerMother’s Day in Bloom
This spring, dedicate a flower to someone special and help us transform the historic walled gardens of Oakwell Hall into a stunning work of art. Join us for this five-week installation to discover a sea of 1,000 handcrafted metal peonies, each representing a personal story of love. By dedicating a peony today, you aren't just creating a beautiful memory; you’re raising vital funds to help us support patients and families across Kirklees – at home, in the community, and at our hospice.
This Spring, we are celebrating the ones who help us grow
Mother’s Day is our time to honour the nurturers, the guiders, and the grounded figures in our lives, and it means something different to everyone. For some, it is a day of joyful celebration; for others, it is a quiet time of reflection and remembrance. Mother’s Day in Bloom is designed to honour whoever ‘Mum’ is to you – whether that is a parent, a grandparent, a guardian, or someone special.
From Sunday 8th March until Sunday 12th April 2026, the walled garden at Oakwell Hall will be transformed into a spectacular sanctuary of pink peonies. In partnership with Kirklees Museums and award-winning designer Dittany Entwined, this stunning and unique floral installation will become a welcoming space to reflect, celebrate, and mark the occasion. A place where love blooms, and memories endure – year after year.
Every flower standing in the garden represents a life touched by love. And what’s more, every single flower will fund the vital, specialist care and support provided by The Kirkwood right here in Kirklees.
Dedicate a Peony to Your Loved Ones
When you dedicate a handcrafted peony, you aren't just helping a charity – you are securing a handcrafted piece of art and supporting our stunning installation this spring.
For just £30, your handcrafted metal peony will be added to the installation in the grounds of Oakwell Hall, contributing to a carpet of pink blooms for you and the public to visit from Sunday 8th March until Sunday 12th April.
Make it extra meaningful by handwriting a special message on a personalised marker. The Kirkwood Events Team will be at Oakwell Hall on the 8th, 13th, 14th and 15th March 2026, from 10am - 3pm to help you add your personalised marker on the day. Alternatively, if you can’t attend on those dates, you can collect a marker from The Kirkwood in Dalton. Then simply return it by Thursday 12th March with your handwritten message and we’ll plant it for you.

Save the Date
Be part of our special Mother's Day event on Sunday 15th March 2026.
Join us from 10am - 3pm for a free, family-friendly day out, complete with live music. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend time together and celebrate our loved ones, past and present, surrounded by the spectacular blooms of our floral installation.
Collecting Your Flower Following the Installation

How to collect or receive your flower:
- Collection (Free): Collect your peony from The Kirkwood in Dalton between Monday 20th and Saturday 25th April. Please remember to bring your proof of purchase.
- Postage (£7): Prefer to have it delivered? You can opt for home postage for a small fee of £7. Simply add the "Postage" option to your order during checkout. Peonies will be dispatched from Monday 27th April.
- Donate your flower(s): If you would prefer not to keep your peony, you can choose to donate it back to The Kirkwood. This allows us to reuse the flowers and help our campaigns flourish in future years.
About the Installation Curator and Our Flower
We are proud to be collaborating with award winning floral designer Nicola Robson, owner of Dittany Entwined, to design a dazzling installation of 1,000 peonies in the heart of Oakwell Hall’s Walled Garden.
Nicola brings a unique perspective to the project, combining 15 years of experience as an NHS physiotherapist with her passion for floral design.
“Flowers have always felt like a powerful language to me – a way of expressing love, remembrance, and emotion when words are not enough. Being part of this Mother’s Day installation feels incredibly meaningful, bringing together all my professional experiences and my creative passions in a way that feels like a true tribute – to mothers, to memory, and to the quiet strength and love that surrounds end of life care.”
Each of the 1,000 peonies that will form part of this extraordinary display is hand painted and crafted to be resilient and beautiful, standing as a testament to the stories and relationships that make our community so special.
Plan Your Visit
Located in Birstall, Oakwell Hall is a Grade I Listed Elizabethan manor house, furnished as a family home of the 1690s. Oakwell Hall was visited by Charlotte Bronte in the 1830s and was immortalised as 'Fieldhead' in her 1849 novel 'Shirley'.
Outdoors, you can explore 110 acres of Green Flag Award winning country park with period gardens (including the magical walled garden), nature trails, mountain bike track, playground and picnic areas, gift shop and cafe.
Entry to the walled gardens to view the peonies is open to the public throughout the installation.
