Penny McSorley

Penny qualified as nurse in Oct 1994 and worked initially in a variety of roles in Leeds Teaching Hospitals trust including Orthopaedics, Major Trauma and Critical Care. Her first management role in the NHS was as a Senior Sister role on a high dependency unit and from there she went on to be a Matron and then a Head of Nursing for Trauma and Related Services at the Leeds General Infirmary, and then Abdominal Medicine and Surgery at St James University Hospital in Leeds.
Penny joined the CCG in Leeds in 2018 in a senior nursing role and went onto work for the Integrated Care Board at West Yorkshire as Director of Nursing and Quality. Penny returned to Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in April 2026 where she is currently Director of Quality, with responsibility for quality governance, risk management and regulation. Penny has a particular interest in care of people living with Frailty and Dementia and has experience of this within her own family.
Penny lives in north Leeds with her husband Tim and their four children. She enjoys cycling, pilates, singing in a local choir and is a keen supporter of Leeds United football club.
