Together We Support Life Across Kirklees
We are delighted to introduce you to a brand new chapter in the story of our vital local charity. You might notice that things are a little different around here. A new logo, a new typeface and a new look. But that’s just scratching the surface. We’re introducing the next evolution of our identity. A bold new expression that will help us to realise our future ambitions.
Why a new identity, why now?
We have all heard it said. Kirkwood Hospice is a place in Dalton. Kirkwood cares for people when they are dying. Whilst those statements are true – it is not all we do. Our amazing team support local people in lots of different ways, at every stage of illness – and in bereavement. But the limited understanding of our vital, life-changing work hampers our ability to reach more people who might benefit from our care. And it leads to confusion, and a misconception that other charities are providing the services that, in reality, we do.
“Right now, we know over 3,000 people in Kirklees are living with an illness from which they will not recover and are approaching the end of their life. And the stark reality is that many people don’t reach out for our support soon enough – if at all.” says Chief Executive, Michael Crowther.
“Perhaps it’s because they aren’t aware of all the ways we can help. Perhaps they think we only care for people at the very end of life. Or perhaps it’s because they simply don’t think we are right for them. We need to change that. We want everyone who might benefit from our services to reach out early enough for us to make a positive impact on their quality of life. And to do it, we must be bold.”
“We have never formally had an identity before. But today, more than ever, we need to tell the world who we are. We need to celebrate our core beliefs and reach out to local people with a renewed sense of clarity, consistency and purpose.
“As we seek to care for more people than ever before in the coming years, we must be brave and express ourselves in a way which engages and inspires our entire community.”
The Kirkwood Support Life
The Kirkwood is not a building, an In-Patient Unit or place of care. We are a movement of people. And our movement is vast. We are clinical and medical professionals. We are patients, carers and families. We are employees, supporters and volunteers. Together, WE are The Kirkwood.
And if there’s one thing that defines us more than anything it’s support - the one thing that keeps The Kirkwood running. And the reason for that support is profound. Because in supporting The Kirkwood we’re all supporting life itself – constantly working to help improve it against all of the odds.
Together, we support those in our care to live well and make the most of every single day. Even when time is short. We make the complex simple by focusing on what is important. And we support families and loved ones to live on, and live well.”
“Our new brand expression will become a rallying cry.” says Michael. “A call to arms to all those in our community who believe people affected by a life limiting illness deserve the very best, compassionate care. Care which helps to improve quality of life – for however long that may be.
Created in partnership with Huddersfield-based design studio Kenyon Weston, our new identity is the start of a new era for The Kirkwood. The project was generously taken on at no cost to The Kirkwood. A labour love for our friends at Kenyon Weston, it’s a far cry from their usual global client list, but it has been a project that has resonated with the whole team.
Matt Kenyon, Director of Kenyon Weston, says: “The opportunity to create something lasting and meaningful that benefits the whole of the local community is probably one of the most rewarding things we can hope to do as an agency. I have vivid memories of visiting my grandfather at the In-Patient Unit at The Kirkwood when I was boy, so we were honoured to offer our services to the charity at no cost. We don’t just want to thank The Kirkwood for their collaboration and trust in us, but for making Kenyon Weston part of this amazing community of people. We’re all now life supporters of Support Life.”
Whether you are affected personally by the loss of a loved one, you’re experiencing health issues due to an illness, a business owner or just someone who cares, we need you to join our movement. Through the thick and thin, the good and bad, we can all make a difference to the lives of those who need it most.
“We want more people to reach out for our care and to inspire new supporters to make a positive difference. We cannot succeed alone, and need more help than ever before from our supporters, our team and the community. Could you be part of The Kirkwood?”
