The Official Liverpool Supporters Club in Leeds raises funds for The Kirkwood in memory Carole

Earlier this year the official Liverpool Supporters Club in Leeds raised an amazing £3,043 for the charity in memory of Carole Beal by walking nine miles along the Leeds Liverpool canal.  

Son James set up the walk and wanted to raise funds for The Kirkwood following the kindness shown to his mum who died last year.  

He wrote an emotional JustGiving page describing his mother’s illness and how she was cared for by The Kirkwood. He said: “I still find it so hard to believe that I won't see my mum or hear her voice again.  She was a wonderful mum to me and was always there to give help and advice whenever I needed it.  Mum was diagnosed with cancer in November 2020, but due to covid, results were inevitably delayed.  

“As a family, we were expecting mum to be treated with chemotherapy, but our world was turned upside down on 30 December at 7pm, when we received a phone call from the GP saying that the cancer had spread to various parts of her body and sadly no treatment was possible.   

“In mid-January 2021 whilst walking through the kitchen her femur snapped due to bone cancer, and she was taken to the major trauma centre at the LGI in Leeds.  Mum remained in hospital for 10 days but was now very ill and deteriorating quickly.  She was desperate to come home and be with us.  Due to much help and kindness from the staff at the LGI and The Kirkwood mum finally came home on February 3rd, but sadly passed away 2 days later.  

“I will always find it hard thinking of mums last weeks but will never forget the wonderful times and love she gave me.” 

James is a loyal Liverpool FC fan with the football club being a pivotal part of his life, he shared special memories with his mum whilst going to see his special side. He said: “Mum always encouraged me to be involved, from taking me on tours around the ground when I was a small boy, to helping me go to the matches.  Each year, she would also help me to collect sponsorship for the annual walk that we do. This year, myself and friends at the Official Liverpool Supporters Club Leeds, decided to raise money for The Kirkwood in her memory, which I knew would have made her extremely proud.”
