The Kirkwood volunteers enjoy a special thank you meal at the Ten Fourteen Steakhouse Bar and Grill

The Ten Fourteen Steakhouse Bar and Grill treated fifty of our volunteers to a tasty three course meal at their bar and restaurant n the centre of Holmfirth. Nigel Turner and Jayne Coxhead who have been huge supporters of our charity this year, were honoured to put on a delighful evening for some of our volunteers to enjoy.

Once again long-time friends and colleagues, Nigel and Jayne decided they’d like to do something special to thank The Kirkwood’s dedicated volunteers for the amazing support they have offered throughout 2023.

Already keen supporters of the charity, Nigel and Jayne were struck by just how much love and dedication goes into making sure The Kirkwood can continue to care for people in need; especially from our volunteers, who freely give up their time throughout the year to help, whether in our shops, at our hospice or by offering a listening ear over the telephone.

Nigel and Jayne have been busy fundraising for the hospice this year, having put on a fashion show, held various quiz nights, as well as a Christmas fayre.

Representatives from many of our shops across Kirklees accepted the invitation, alongside members of our gardening, fundraising, hospice teams and Support Groups, gathered at Ten Fourteen for a well desreved meal.

When asked about the evening, Volunteer Services Manager Linda Moore said: “A good time was had by all, every volunteer had a lovely evening at Ten Fourteen, the atmosphere was delightful as everyone enjoyed delicious food and drink.”

“Although we couldn’t invite everyone to the meal, as we have over 800 amazing volunteers, we did have a wide range of volunteers that came from every department across the hospice meaning everyone was represented on the night.”

Business Development Manager Beverley Shaw added: “The Kirkwood were thrilled when Ten Fourteen Bar & Restaurant, a member of our Business Movement, offered to host a Christmas celebration and meal for 50 of our volunteers in their restaurant in the build up to Christmas.

Upon approaching the centre of Holmfirth, the Christmas feel was set, when seeing Holmfirth’s beautiful and tasteful festive displays. Just steps from the centre of Holmfirth, I arrived at Ten Fourteen to find each of our volunteers mingling, chatting and having a laugh.

“The three-course meal provided was outstanding in quality and the service was so professional and friendly by each of the front of house team.

“Being able to bring together a selection of volunteers from across the charity and say thank you to them was a privilege.

“In times of economic challenges, including for local businesses, for Ten Fourteen to make this amazing and generous offer to The Kirkwood it was very much appreciated and having spoken to many of the volunteers attending, some new friendships had definitely been made.”

Finally Jayne Coxhead Ten Fourteen manager commented: “We believe its important to support local people and local causes, particularly one as important to the community and surrounding area as The Kirkwood.

“As advocates for The Kirkwood we were proud to be able to offer the volunteers a Christmas meal as a thank you for all their hard work and commitment to such an invaluable worthwhile charity.”
