The Kirkwood receive an amazing £20,000 donation from The Albert Hunt Trust
The Kirkwood are delighted to have received an amazing £20,000 donation from The Albert Hunt Trust.
The Albert Hunt Trust was created in 1979 and named in the memory of Albert Hunt who was a successful businessman. Albert died in 1957, leaving his business jointly to two ladies; Miss Mary Kathleen Coyle and Miss Florence I Reakes (his late first wife’s niece).
Miss Reakes died in 1996 and Miss Coyle in 2000, both bequeathing the bulk of their estates to the Trust, providing it with a significant endowment. This enabled the trust to increase its active support of charitable causes over the years, and The Kirkwood are pleased to be one of the trust’s latest beneficiaries.
The funds will help us to Support Life right across Kirklees, helping to improve the quality of life for our patients and helping those in our care to make the most of the time they have left, however long that may be.
The Kirkwood's Trusts and Legacy Fundraiser, Chris Swinton, said: "I was speechless when the e-mail arrived. Their support has been amazing, particularly over the last two years, but I wasn’t expecting this. It’s heartening to see the work of The Kirkwood be so highly regarded.
"We would like to express our sincere thanks to long term supporter of The Kirkwood – The Albert Hunt Trust.
During the height of the coronavirus pandemic, all major events were cancelled and non-essential retail were forced to close, causing significant losses for charities. In response, the Trust redoubled their support of the hospice movement.
Chris continued: "The Albert Hunt Trust knows of the importance of helping to fund the core costs of Hospice Care, and we are especially grateful for their most recent donation – an incredible £20,000. To us, their gift isn’t purely financial. It is a gift of time.
"Time for The Kirkwood Nurses to dedicate to the people who need it most and whose time is short.
"Time for our Support and Therapy team to help patients focus on what they can do, rather than what they’re now unable to do.
"Time for The Kirkwood Counselling team to help a family grief and deal with their bereavement in the way that’s right for them."
The Kirkwood would like to say a huge thank you to The Albert Hunt Trust for their amazing donation and continued support.
