The Kirkwood receive £500 from Dobbies and gain fantastic gardening equipment with the reward

The Kirkwood were delighted to be awarded £500 from Dobbies Garden Centre Pennine, which has been used to buy some new gardening equipment and plants for our Gardening Volunteers.

The award is very much appreciated, and our fantastic volunteers have already put the funds to good use. They have purchased new equipment to use in our beautiful gardens at Dalton, including loppers, pruning shears, spades, brushes and forks.

They have also bought a number of plants which are able to continue growing in the colder months to add a new winter element to the garden.

The donation will also help out The Kirkwood’s catering team, who use lots of the herbs and vegetables grown in our allotment.

The Kirkwood’s Sue Wood said: "This donation from Dobbies has enabled the volunteer gardeners to complete a path project and start planning growing next year's vegetables for The Kirkwood kitchen which feeds our staff, volunteers and patients.

"The funds also meant new tools could be bought to replace old worn-out ones, this is always a boon.

"The volunteer gardeners wanted to widen the winter interest in our gardens and this donation has contributed to this long team plan. So, thank you to Dobbies once more.

"The garden is an important part of The Kirkwood movement as it provides patients, family and friends, staff and volunteers a chance to sit in a quiet and peaceful place whilst visiting the site in Dalton."
