The Kirkwood raises £350 from Dewsbury Rams fundraising game day
The Kirkwood looks to interact with as much of the Kirklees community as possible whether with individuals, businesses or sports clubs, we want to spread the message to as many people as possible about the services we provide for anyone living with a life limiting illness.
On Sunday 7th July The Kirkwood joined forces with local Rugby League side Dewsbury Rams to help raise funds and awareness about the charity work The Kirkwood does. As the Rams took on Doncaster RLFC in a hotly contested Championship fixture it was fantastic to have a number of The Kirkwood's staff and volunteers there to raise funds through a bucket collection. The charity raised over £350 on the day.
The Kirkwood's media and marketing officer Steven Downes said of the partnership and event: “Having previously worked for the Rams I know what a fantastic community the club is where everyone cares for each other. It was great to connect my current employer The Kirkwood with the club. The Kirkwood's services cover the whole of Kirklees and that includes Dewsbury. We want people to recognise that our great charity isn't just a building in Dalton in Huddersfield but that we are there to care for anyone in Kirklees with a life limiting illness.
“It was great that the club got right behind what we wanted to achieve. We held a bucket collection on the day, and had our lottery manager Dawn on a table in the Royal Suite engaging with supporters, club officials and players.
“We are hoping to make this an annual event and we look forward to working with the club in the future.”
Tony Scargill added on behalf of Dewsbury Rams: “When Steven came to us with the idea of holding a The Kirkwood day at the stadium we were all very much on board from the beginning. As a Rugby League club in the heart of its community we are deeply aware that a charity such as The Kirkwood can be connected to so many of our supporters and have a big effect on their lives and so we were delighted to offer any help we could.
“I am pleased that the bucket collection raised a great amount of money for the charity. The Kirkwood is something I am deeply connected to myself and have seen first hand the amazing work their staff does as they make a huge difference to people’s lives. Hopefully fans that attended on the day will have gained a better understanding of the services The Kirkwood can provide in their area.
“We look forward to hosting another The Kirkwood day again and thanks to all that supported the charity this time around.”
