The Kirkwood raise brilliant funds from fantastic 2021 Festive Lights Trail

Every year we are astounded and amazed by the fantastic efforts our supporters go to over the festive period to raise funds for The Kirkwood, and 2021 was no different.

The Kirkwood are always delighted to see events taking place over Christmas in aid of our charity, and we can now officially reveal that our amazing supporters raised over £8,000 through our Festive Light Trails.

The first thank you goes to Derek Highe, who has been creating magical displays at his Robin Royd Lights show for 19 years. Derek is on target to raise in excess of amazing £6,000 from this year’s event.

Having brought so much joy to so many over the years, Derek's festive lights brought families from far and wide to see the unbelievable lights, which this year included a spectacular train. Thanks also go to Dewsbury Road Runners, Capri Mirfield and Capri Horbury who all made donations towards Derek's event.

Thanks also to Tivoli Travel for organising the Mirfield Elf Trail, thanks to all the businesses who took part and everyone who made a donation and completed the trail.

Next up, we’d like to thank Hazel Sutcliffe and the residents of Fenay Bridge Park and Lepton, who decorated their homes to raise money for us. Karen Glendenning, Arron Wike and Carl Field won the competition for best decorations – congratulations on their amazing displays!

Thanks also to Curtis Bailey who entertained families with his festive tractor and raised £554.

We also had a couple of fantastic supporters who provided refreshments and delicious baked goodies. Karen Glendenning raised £300.43 and Julie Ingamells £261.28.

Thanks also go to McColls and Highgate Café in Lepton, who kindly collected donations for The Kirkwood throughout the Festive Light Trail.

On the events, The Kirkwood’s Fundraising Manager, Bev Shaw, said: “All the Festive Light Trails which have taken place to support The Kirkwood have been truly amazing and have demonstrated the spirit of community and Christmas itself.

“We really appreciate the hard work and many hours we know that our supporters have taken in preparing their light displays, and we know the pleasure it has brought to those visiting all our Festive events.

“2021 has been a challenging year for many and we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved.  Let’s make 2022 bigger and better than ever and continue to support those diagnosed with a life limiting illness across our communities.”
