The Kirkwood Celebrates Success of ‘Fashion Without Boundaries’ as it Prepares for its Next Chapter

As our Fashion without Boundaries shop prepares to move into a new phase as an agile ‘pop-up’, we want to say thank you to all those who have helped to make our Huddersfield town centre shop such a success over the past 16 months.

Since its doors opened in October 2024, Fashion Without Boundaries, located on Ramsden Street, has been more than just a boutique charity shop; it has been a statement of inclusion, style, and community.

Always intended to be a short-term 'pop-up' venture, the shop has helped The Kirkwood to trial an innovative concept to raise vital funds for patient care here in Kirklees without financial risk.

‘Fashion without Boundaries’ was designed to be a unique shopping experience, moving away from traditional Men’s and Women’s labels, instead arranging items by style, size, and colour.

Our aim was to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for anyone and everyone, and to showcase vintage and pre-loved fashions in a way which struck a chord with the LGBTQ+ community. Fashion without Boundaries offered a wide range of products and inclusive sizing without gender labels, making it easy for customers to explore styles that appealed to their personal taste.

Paul Freethy, Head of Retail and Trading for The Kirkwood, said: "We were proud to launch this brand-new concept back in 2024 and have been delighted with the feedback we’ve had. This was always a short-term lease which allowed us to test this new concept with minimal risk to the charity.

“It’s been a great opportunity to try something new and to welcome a diverse range of customers in a space where everyone is welcome to be themselves, with no judgment and no labels."

While the physical shop in Huddersfield will be handed back at the end of this month, the spirit of ‘Fashion Without Boundaries’ will continue to live on. The Kirkwood plans to take the lessons learned from the past 16 months and transform the brand into a pop-up model that can travel to different locations.

Paul Freethy added: "Although we are closing the door to our shop, we intend to keep our Fashion Without Boundaries concept alive as a true pop-up at events across Kirklees. Watch this space for updates about where we might be heading in the future!"

Opening and operating ‘Fashion without Boundaries’ would not have been possible without the dedication of our local community. The Kirkwood would like to extend a huge thank you to every customer who discovered their perfect outfit, every donor who trusted us with their pre-loved items, and the incredible team of volunteers and employees who worked tirelessly to run the shop over the past 16 months.

Fashion without Boundaries will close on Friday 23rd January.

If you usually take donations to our Fashion without Boundaries shop, we would love to welcome you and accept them at our Huddersfield town centre shop on Byram Street (opposite the Parish Church). You can also take donations to any of our other shops in Kirklees or drop them at one of our Donation Centres. You can find out where your nearest donation point is here.
