A very special Afternoon Tea to celebrate our volunteers

Our charity was formed by dedicated people giving up their time to realise their ambition to change the way the people of Kirklees were cared for at the end of their lives. Without our volunteers, The Kirkwood simply wouldn’t exist today. What began with two passionate people has now grown to a movement of over 900 volunteers donating their time to help our patients.

This week we were delighted to hold a very special afternoon tea at Dalton to celebrate our longest serving volunteers, some of whom have been part of The Kirkwood movement since the very start. Volunteer roles range from working on our In-Patient Unit, to maintaining our tranquil gardens to helping to provide delicious meals for our patients. Every one of our volunteers help to support the lives of our patients and make a huge difference.

On our volunteers event, Volunteer Services Manager, Linda Moore said: "Our volunteers are the backbone of our charity, with some of them being with us from the very start, which equates to over 35 years’ service, which is just amazing dedication. To carry on supporting us like they have for so many years just shows how powerful and special our movement is and what our work means to people right across Kirklees.

"Our volunteers help in every area of our charity. It doesn't matter where you look, you'll find them making a difference. I am very proud to lead our volunteers and we’re always looking for more people to join us.

"At the event all our volunteers received a certificate and pin badge, a small token of thanks for their service. We celebrated volunteers who have been a part of our movement for 20-35 years, an amazing achievement. We plan to hold a similar event in the future to celebrate more of our volunteers.

“A huge thank you to all our volunteers, we couldn’t continue to be there for our patients if it wasn’t for them advocating, raising money, giving time, and caring. It’s truly inspiring.”
