The Kirkwood are proud to re-open the Slaithwaite shop
Local charity, The Kirkwood, have opened the doors to a new charity shop at 9-10 Carr Lane, Slaithwaite.
The shop opened on Thursday 17th November at 11am. Located in the heart of the village next door to A.Harris Butchers, the new shop sees a much anticipated and welcome return to Slaithwaite for The Kirkwood.
The brand new store, will directly support the people of Slaithwaite, helping to fund vital services for patients, families and carers in the village, and throughout Kirklees.
As well as providing 24/7 care at their hospice in Huddersfield, The Kirkwood provide care and support for people in their own homes and in care homes in every town and village across Kirklees.
To officially open the shop and cut the ribbon was a member of The Kirkwood Nursing team who serves the Slaithwaite area.
The Kirkwood have worked with some amazing local businesses to bring the shop to life. Local signwriter, Signs by Umberto, has hand painted the sign and Slaithwaite’s own Dark Woods Coffee served refreshments at the launch. Independent illustrator/artist/design, Sarah Abbott, has created a beautiful illustration in the windows as part of the launch around the theme of ‘Reduce, re-use, recycle.

The Kirkwood hopes the new Carr Lane shop will be a big success. Duncan Batty, Director of Income Generation and Marketing with The Kirkwood, said of the shops opening: "We’re delighted to be opening our brand new shop in the very heart of the Slaithwaite community. We know the locals have missed us since our previous shop on Brittania Lane closed earlier this year, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to come and see what our brand new shop has to offer.
"We’re thrilled to be able to offer people the chance to shop sustainably and affordably whilst also helping The Kirkwood’s mission to care for the people here in Slaithwaite and right across Kirklees.”
The Kirkwood’s new shop will stock pre-loved clothes, accessories, and homeware. It demonstrates the charity's commitment to the Slaithwaite community, the planet and to ensuring the people of Kirklees have access to the best possible care.
The Kirkwood are hoping locals will support the new shop by donating their pre-loved items, popping in to shop and volunteering their spare time.
Linda Moore, Volunteer Team Leader with The Kirkwood, said: “We’re always in need of a helping hand, as a charity we couldn’t run without our dedicated volunteers. Any time people can give is always welcome, whether it’s an hour or more we have volunteering opportunities to suit everyone! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and, best of all, do something that really makes a difference for a local charity which cares for people right in the heart of the village.”
