Tee-rific local supporters help The Kirkwood Support Life
After choosing The Kirkwood as their charity of the year, Captains Charles and Angela Haygarth, along with the Woodsome Hall Golf Club members, raised over £13,000 in 2020 to help Support Life across Kirklees.
In 2020, we were delighted to be named as chosen charity during Charles and Angela Haygarth’s 12-month captaincy at Woodsome Hall Golf Club, based in Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield.
Having supported The Kirkwood for a number of years, the club, along with its members, are eager to give back to their local community and encourage their captains to nominate a charity as beneficiary of their fundraising.

But as the coronavirus pandemic engulfed the country in March last year, the club saw the devastation the pandemic was causing for thousands of people across the UK and vowed to not let the virus prevent them from supporting their local cause.
With restrictions, social distancing and the stay-at-home rule enforced for many months, any original plans to raise funds were quickly scrapped and the club sought out new ideas from their members and got to work.
With many of our fundraising events sadly postponed or cancelled, our income was stretched to its limit and the dedication from our supporters just like the team at Woodsome Hall Golf Club has kept our teams going.
In the heigh of the first lockdown last year, the group undertook a number of activities with their main project of making and selling facemasks for locals helping them to reach their total of £13,449.

And to help keep our In-Patient Unit nurses smiling amongst the pressure of following new guidelines, the Woodsome Hall members often donated gifts and food hampers filled with treats to be enjoyed with our patients.
Our Fundraising Manager, Beverley Shaw, has worked closely with Charles and Angela over the last 12-months to support them with their ideas. Beverley says: “After such a challenging year for us all, it has been truly amazing to see local people like Charles, Angela and the Club members work so hard to support charities like ours.
“The Kirkwood support anyone affected by a life limiting illness here in Kirklees and the club’s amazing work over the last 12 months will make a real difference to the lives of local people. We can’t thank them enough for thinking of us.
“We’re all really looking forward to continuing this relationship and would like to say a special thank you to the club’s new captains, Susan Gillespie and Richard Hirst, for choosing to support us again this year.”
