Volunteering a little time makes a lasting difference - here’s how you can get involved

Following the successful openings of our brand new shop in Heckmondwike, and our flagship Superstore and Kids shops in Mirfield, we are inviting people from across Kirklees to consider volunteering in our growing Retail team.

With opportunities available across a range of roles, we are inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to become part of a friendly and supportive team that helps raise the vital funds needed to provide specialist care for local people and their families.

Karen Hartley, Retail Area Manager for The Kirkwood, said: "Our retail volunteers are the heart and soul of our shops. Every conversation they have with a customer, every donation they sort, every item they price and every hour they give helps to raise the vital funds that allow The Kirkwood to continue caring for local people and the families who need us most. As we have welcomed customers into our brand new shops in Mirfield and Heckmondwike over the last few months we are looking for more kind, enthusiastic and community minded people to join our incredible team of volunteers.

"Whether you have experience in retail or are looking for something completely new, there really is a role for everyone. From serving customers and creating eye catching displays to sorting donations behind the scenes, every volunteer has an important part to play. Volunteering with The Kirkwood is about much more than giving your time. It's about making new friendships, building confidence, developing new skills and becoming part of a supportive team that shares a common purpose. Many of our volunteers tell us they get just as much back as they give, knowing that every shift helps local people receive the compassionate care and support they deserve.

"We're incredibly excited about these new shops as well as all of our retail departments. We want to create welcoming spaces for our communities to enjoy. We'd love people of all ages and backgrounds to come along and get involved. Whether you can spare a couple of hours a week or several days a month, your time really will make a lasting difference. No previous retail experience is needed, and volunteers can choose from a variety of roles to suit their interests, skills and availability. From welcoming customers and merchandising displays to sorting donations and supporting behind the scenes, every role plays an important part in helping The Kirkwood Support Life right across Kirklees.

Volunteering also offers an opportunity to gain valuable retail and customer service experience, build confidence, meet new people and become part of a team united by a shared purpose.
