Raise a Glass to Carers’ Week
Kirkwood Hospice joins forces with Carers Count to host Vintage Tea Party during National Carers’ Week.
To mark National Carers’ Week in 2017, Carers Count held a Vintage Tea Party at the Tolson Museum, Huddersfield, in cooperation with Kirkwood Hospice.
National Carers’ Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of carers and mark the contributions they make throughout the UK, is an important period in the community’s calendar and one Kirkwood Hospice is keen to participate in.
Enjoying Tea and Cake.
With the setting of the Tolson Museum, Ravensknowle Park, the morning of the 15th June saw a free drop-in event take place with refreshments and activities available, simply giving those who care for someone a place to unwind.
After enjoying the wide range on offer, from tombolas to bouncy castles and henna tattoos to tea and cake, attendees could make their way over to the Marketplace area for the opportunity to find out about local Kirklees Carers Services and the support they offer.

Commenting on the event, Kirkwood Hospice Social Worker, Catherine Thompson, said:
“Through our Vintage Tea Party event, we wanted to show the community the good work we do and how we work together with Carers Count, as well as showcasing the services we offer for those supporting a loved one.
“Having Kirkwood Hospice and Carers Count Professionals on hand available to answer any questions or simply to have a chat, this was our opportunity to give something back to the carers as well as giving them the chance to get to know each other.
"This was our opportunity to give something back to the carers as well as giving them the chance to get to know each other. It was so nice to see so many people enjoying themselves and finding out about what’s on offer in their local community, while taking five minutes out for themselves." Catherine Thompson
“The room was packed full the whole morning and afternoon, from 10am until 2pm, with carers and their loved ones.
“It was so nice to see so many people enjoying themselves and finding out about what’s on offer in their local community, while taking five minutes out for themselves. We are already looking for our next opportunity to work in collaboration with our friends at Carers Count again!”
