2 Jun 2023 Getting to Know...
Proud event partner, Syngenta, visit route landmarks ahead of this years, The Kirkwood Memory Walk.
Each year, hundreds of people descend on the streets of Kirklees to take on The Kirkwood Memory Walk in memory of those they love. The route covers a choice of six to ten miles, taking in the local landmarks along the way. Walkers will begin their journey at 10pm from our new venue, The John’s Smith Stadium, as they begin a steady incline up Wakefield Road, past The Kirkwood Moldgreen Furniture Shop and rest stop, towards the Tolson Memorial Museum, following the route towards The Kirkwood, Dalton their second rest stop of the journey and memory wall, before parting ways. The six milers continuing their journey from here back to The John’s Smith Stadium. Our ten mile walkers will continue the incline, walking up to the Huddersfield Chimney towards Lepton for their third rest stop at Rowley Lane School, from here they will then continue into Fenay Bridge, past photo booth sponsor, Harvey’s Bar/Kitchen, descending back into Huddersfield via The Kirkwood Waterloo Shop, doubling back to Tolson Memorial Museum, completing at John’s Smith Stadium.
A few weeks ago, we met up with our event partner, Syngenta, to check out this year’s route. Donning The Kirkwood Memory Walk 2023 T-shirts (found in your walker packs) and Hoodies (available to purchase at this year’s event), the trio took a whistle-stop tour of some of the famous landmarks included in this year’s walk.
Carl Sykes, External Relations Manager at Syngenta comments: “The Kirkwood Memory Walk is a signature event in the local fundraising calendar and brings together our community in a celebration of loved ones, past and present. So many amazing people take on the challenge, often in memory of family or friends to celebrate their legacy.
“Quite a few of the Syngenta team will be walking this year. We’re very proud of our longstanding partnership with The Kirkwood, and we’re really looking forward to the new format this year, starting from the John Smith’s Stadium. Our walkers always look forward to the treat of bacon sandwiches as a reward at the end.”
