Midnight Memory Walk Returns for 2022
The Kirkwood are delighted to announce that after being away for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our Midnight Memory Walk is set to return for 2022 – and this year we’re pulling out all the stops to make it the best one yet. So get ready to lace up those trainers, slide into those boots and put your best foot forward as we tread the paths, roads and walkways of Huddersfield in memory of the ones we love.
After two years away, The Kirkwood want to make 2022 the biggest Midnight Memory Walk in the charity’s history. With thousands of people from across Kirklees and beyond having taken part in previous years, The Kirkwood want to encourage people to get involved once again. With the community’s help, The Kirkwood are hoping to sign up as many people as possible to take part in one of the best and most emotionally charged nights in the Kirklees events calendar.
Walking either a six or 10-mile circuit which starts and ends at the University of Huddersfield, you can decide what distance you'd like to challenge yourself to. If you choose the 10-mile walk you will clock up an incredible 20,000 steps!
Over the past 15 years thousands of people have walked in memory of loved ones; that equates to nearly 25 million steps, each one meaning just as much as the last step taken. In 2019, over 1,400 people came together to take part in the Midnight Memory Walk. The Kirkwood need your help to beat that total this Summer.
After the heart-breaking cancelation of the entire events calendar in 2020, and much of 2021, The Kirkwood want to bring communities back together at events across Kirklees in 2022 and the Midnight Memory Walk, which is being supported by Syngenta, is a fantastic opportunity to do this. The last two years have been gut-wrenching for so many of us, with many of us unable to spend time with loved ones or do activities to remember loved ones in the way in which we would normally do. The Kirkwood’s Midnight Memory Walk is an evening of highly charged emotions but also one in which people can take pride in the fact that they have hundreds of friends around them. They will be walking as part of The Kirkwood movement, banded together to remember the special people in their lives.
Kathryn Box from The Kirkwood Events team said: “The Kirkwood are here to support families across Kirklees who are affected by life limiting illness. We are here for everyone in our community and our Midnight Memory Walk is an opportunity to bring our movement together from across Kirklees to remember those they love and do something incredible in their memory.
“The walk is always special, emotional and inspiring. To think that a family and group of people can come together for lots of different reasons but can walk as one in unison is something not just powerful but shows the strength of our amazing community in Kirklees. We have done the walk for the past 15 years and each time it has grown, we want to make 2022 the best year ever, and we hope even more people will join us on the incredible journey.”
All the funds raised at this year’s event will help people across Kirklees to get the care they need – when and where it is needed. The Kirkwood believe that the people of Kirklees deserve the very best care and work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for those in need, every single minute of every single day.
