Lloyd Bentley’s brilliant Three Peaks double run challenge which raised vital funds for The Kirkwood

Earlier this summer Lloyd Bentley completed his back-to-back Three Peaks challenge, smashing his time target and raising more than £3,000 for The Kirkwood.

Lloyd Bentley was completing the challenge in memory of Chris Carbutt, father of his best friend James, who died of stomach cancer in March 2019. He has raised an incredible £3,555 in total for The Kirkwood during his challenge,

The 30-year-old self-employed decorator was determined to do the mammoth run in under 15 hours. He crossed the finish line in an unbelievable time of 12 hours and 22 minutes.

The vital funds Lloyd has raised will help us to continue to provide the very best care for people who rely on our services throughout Kirklees.

Looking back on his challenge Lloyd said: “I couldn’t have asked for the day to have gone any better.

“I had no injuries which was great. To say the length I ran and how fast I went to not get one injury was very good.

“I thought I’d get to mile 30 and the wheels would start to fall off but they didn’t. I surprised myself really to be honest.

“When I’d done the run one way before, I thought that turning around and running back would be tough. However, I think because I mentally prepared myself on the day to do it I didn’t find it difficult."

Lloyd took on the grueling challenge in memory of his friend James’s, dad Chris.

James was extremely grateful to The Kirkwood for the care we provided to his dad whilst he was on the In-Patient Unit.

On that care, James said: "The Kirkwood were absolutely amazing not only in the care of my dad but me also.

"My dad had everything he needed and wanted. There wasn't a thing they could have done to make my dad's last days there anymore relaxed and peaceful.

"I have so much respect and gratitude for all the staff who work there and do their best everyday making people's lives that little bit easier."

On whether Lloyd is planning to run the Three Peaks four times in the future he said: “It’s something I haven’t discounted My fiancée Dominique has been wonderful in supporting me through all my training but now it’s time to give her some time.”

We’d like to say a massive thank you to Lloyd and everyone who helped him along the way.
