Join us in The Kirkwood Gardens this Saturday

Come along and join us during our open day event this Saturday and discover how our gardens continue to delight patients, visitors and our community in our 35th year

Over the past 35 years, The Kirkwood gardens have been a beacon of hope for thousands of patients and families in our care. A space to contemplate. A space to enjoy the great outdoors. A place to make new memories and spend quality time with those we love. They have played host to hundreds of events over the years, bringing families and our community together to remember, celebrate happy memories and raise funds to help us Support Life. And this Saturday, in our 35th Anniversary year, we are opening them up for the general public to visit and enjoy.

We are taking part in the National Open Gardens Scheme this weekend and our gardens in Dalton will be open between 10am and 3pm. We’d love you to come down and visit.

The gardens have changed considerably over the decades, as have our volunteers. And with each new generation of volunteer, something new and exciting has sprung to life.

Much like the passing of the seasons, our gardens continue to change and evolve over time. As we celebrate our 35th Anniversary year, there is no better time to visit and discover for yourself exactly why our gardens continue to mean so much to so many across Kirklees.

If you’d like to join us at our Open Gardens, you can pre-book your tickets in advance at: ngs.org.uk/view-garden/42125, but it is not essential - you can just turn up on the day.

Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers will be offering tours of the gardens throughout the day, giving you a sneak peek behind the scenes. You’ll discover how we’re encouraging wildlife and how we’re helping to create a garden which brings joy 365 days of the year. And we’ll even show you how our allotment is providing our catering team with organic, freshly grown vegetables straight from the ground!

We hope you’ll join us on Saturday for a tour of our gardens. There will be refreshments to enjoy and a number of stalls to browse, as well as the promise of a wonderful experience.

Our Volunteer Gardeners have been working hard to reimagine and reinvigorate our gardens following the Covid-19 pandemic. So whether you’ve spent time in them recently or you’ve not been for a while, we promise there is something new to see! We hope to see you there.
