Huge success for The Kirkwood’s It’s a Knockout challenge

On Sunday 12th September, we were delighted to welcome the Kirklees community back together for our first event in over 18-months. Bringing wacky games and fun challenges to Oakwell Hall Country Park, teams went head-to-head in It’s a Knockout to help The Kirkwood Support Life.

After 18-months of virtual fundraisers and remote events, The Kirkwood Events Team teamed up with Graham Fisher’s International It’s a Knockout to bring a day of fun filled challenges to Kirklees.

15 excited teams took part in what ended up being a day jam-packed with crazy foam-filled games. Competing for first place, six teams went head-to-head in the morning with the remaining nine competing in the afternoon.

Event sponsors, Sheards Accountants, entered their team in support of The Kirkwood and battled it out against their opponents to be crowned champion after a fantastic effort.

Director at Sheards Accountants, Carolyn, was delighted to see the team take part in a local cause they are dedicated to supporting. She said: “The whole team taking part from Sheards had a HUGE amount of fun taking part in It’s a Knockout, one of our best team events ever!

“Also of course we are thrilled to have helped raise funds for Kirkwood whilst putting the fun into fundraising. Very well organised and the team from Graham Fishers were very professional but also great comedians. Put us down for any future events!”

Spectators were welcomed to cheer the teams on and were able to find out more about how The Kirkwood Support Life. The Kirkwood Nurse, Fiona Marshall, and Community Services Manager, Jo Keeling, were on hand to share how they provide care in patients’ homes in every corner of Kirklees.

Batley & Birstall Support Group also joined the team to boost fundraising by selling home made goodies and local stallholders were invited to offer food, drink and entertainment for spectators watching the challenge.

The Kirkwood Events Assistant, Katie Hirst, was both pleased and proud with how the day had gone, she gleefully said: "I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our It’s a Knockout event on Sunday and to all the volunteers and businesses who made it possible.

“It was a fantastic day and great to see so many people back together supporting The Kirkwood after almost two years of not being able to hold a big event!

"We hope to have raised £10,000 which is amazing. Every penny raised will help The Kirkwood to be there for anyone who needs us, anywhere in Kirklees.

"We loved watching all of the teams take part and compete to be crowned champion – everyone embraced the foam and water and had a brilliant time!"

We would like to say a huge thank you to Cleckheaton Fire Service team for their valuable time and help in providing water for the slippery assault courses. Also to the 1st Plus Medical team for ensuring the safety of all the participants.

Thank you to Confex Sweets for supplying goodie bags for all the It’s a Knockout teams taking part and to Oakwell Hall Country Park for their ongoing support.

To the Event Sponsors for It’s a Knockout, Sheards Accountants, thank you to the team for joining taking part on the day and sponsoring the event.
