Hospice Care Week: this is what it takes

Monday 5th October to Sunday 11th October is Hospice Care Week and this year's theme is 'this is what it takes'. Throughout the week, we have been sharing content across our social media channels about what it takes for The Kirkwood to support life for anyone affected by a life limiting illness in Kirklees, especially throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The Hospice Care Week theme this year, 'this is what it takes', is all about what it takes to provide end of life care in our community. As the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK, our teams quickly adapted their way of working to ensure patients, carers and family members all continued to receive the same level of care and support, when and where they needed it.

Our teams at The Kirkwood have been working hard over the last few months, adapting their roles to ensure we can continue to support anyone affected by a life limiting illness in Kirklees. Our clinical teams out in the community have switched to virtual consultations wherever possible, our In-Patient Unit nurses and doctors have adapted to new ways of supporting patients from a distance, and our non-clinical teams have gone above and beyond to help make all this possible. To find out what we have been up to during the pandemic, we have put together a short video of messages from our teams. But, we couldn't do this without everyone that makes up The Kirkwood movement. From our employees and volunteers, patients, carers and family members, to our supporters and followers on social media, it takes thousands of people just like you to help us support life for anyone affected by a life limiting illness in Kirklees. We have seen some amazing support over the last few months, from members of our community finding new ways to safely fundraise  and donations from local businesses, to our social media followers taking the time to read, like and share our stories with their connections. We couldn't do it without you!
