Holme Valley Lions set to host a Get Together coffee morning for The Kirkwood

The Holme Valley Lions are looking forward to hosting a coffee morning for The Kirkwood and to raise much needed vital funds.

The Holme Valley Lions are a local group who help organisations and individuals in the local community, whether that is donating to food banks or raising funds through events like The Kirkwood Get Together.

Gill Greaves, President of the Holme Valley Lions, and committee members have supported The Kirkwood for several years, with many having a personal connection to the local charity.

Gill herself ran a virtual half marathon during lockdown last year and managed to raise over £1,000 for The Kirkwood – an absolutely fantastic achievement.

On hosting a Get Together, Gill said: "We will be holding a coffee morning and we want to raise as much money as possible for The Kirkwood. As a committee, it is our job to look for opportunities to help people and raise money where we can.

"We usually put Easter eggs into pubs to raise £1,000. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, we haven't been able to do that this year.”

Gill has had personal experience of a hospice environment in Oldham, where a number of her family members have been supported. Gill understands and appreciates the importance of The Kirkwood and all the work they do across Kirklees.

"I cared for my sister who was diagnosed with cancer last year. She died in July and the only time her pain was released a little bit was when the Hospice got involved. The staff were amazing not just with her but the whole family,” Gill continued.

"We just can't thank them enough for how they went about everything.

"The Kirkwood have a very good reputation for providing the same level of support I personally received. This is why it is important that money is raised for these places because of the amazing work they do."
