Golcar United’s Party on the Pitch Returns and it’s Supporting The Kirkwood this year too

Golcar United’s much-anticipated Party on the Pitch is set to return for its fourth year on Friday 9th May and Saturday 10th May at Skye Direct Stadium, Longfield Avenue, Golcar, Huddersfield. This two-day festival promises an incredible line-up of some of the UK’s top tribute acts while raising vital funds to support both the football club and The Kirkwood.

Since its inception, Party on the Pitch has gone from strength to strength, growing in popularity each year. Golcar United’s Secretary, Ben Senior, has played a key role in its success, having previously organised smaller-scale music events. Now, the festival has evolved into a major event featuring some of the UK’s most in-demand tribute acts.

Ben Senior explains: “Party on the Pitch is in its fourth year now and is growing year on year. I am part of a charity that looks after a recreation area and football pitches in Golcar, and we need to generate some income to enable us to buy equipment and materials to pay for the upkeep. I had previously helped organise events with bands playing on the back of trailers and decided to move it up a level and get some of the UK’s top tribute acts involved.

“The acts we have generally played at ticketed events at various venues, including the O2 Academy, Ritz Ballroom (Manchester), Butlins, Picturedrome, and Smile Bar, with a couple even playing at Glastonbury! We try our best to keep costs down, offering seven or eight acts for just £20 for the weekend (a lot charge that just to see one act) and keeping bar prices cheap to ensure it remains a family-friendly event. The success we’ve had recently has seen attendance numbers increase every year.”

This year, Party on the Pitch will not only support Golcar United but will also raise funds for The Kirkwood. Senior and his team made the decision to donate a portion of the event’s ticket sales to The Kirkwood after learning about recent funding cuts.

“We have seen that The Kirkwood’s funding has been cut this year, and as the event has grown and will hopefully continue to grow we decided to help out another local charity. And what better charity than one that supports the whole of Huddersfield?” Senior added.

The event promises two days of outstanding live music, featuring some of the UK’s best tribute acts:

Friday 9th May (Gates open 4:45 PM)

5:00 PM - Local Acts

6:45 PM - Blur (Blur2)

7:45 PM - Pulp (Pulp’d)

9:00 PM - Gerry Cinnamon (The Gerry Cina-man Experience)

Saturday 10th May (Gates open 2:00 PM)

3:00 PM - Local Acts

4:30 PM - Oasis (On The Shoulders Of Giants)

6:00 PM - Pink (Kyla Porter Almost P!nk)

7:30 PM - Guns N’ Roses (Guns N Yorkshire Roses)

9:00 PM - RT90’s (90’s Club Classics)

Senior is particularly excited about this year’s line-up, highlighting some of the returning favourites:

“I am really looking forward to this year’s event as we have managed to book some fantastic acts. Blur2 and Pulp’d sell out all over, and we have The Gerry Cinnamon Experience coming all the way down from Scotland to headline after previously headlining a couple of years ago. Since then, he has soared in popularity, performing all over the world and doing his own UK tour.

“On Saturday, we have Oasis tribute On The Shoulders of Giants opening the show (after headlining previously), with Almost Pink and the Yorkshire Guns N’ Roses supporting RT90s, a dance party band from the Midlands. They perform at Butlins 90s weekends and alongside acts like Craig David and East 17, they always bring a great party atmosphere to round off the weekend.”

The decision to support The Kirkwood has been met with enthusiasm from the charity’s team. Jim Coward, Head of Media and Marketing with The Kirkwood, expressed his gratitude: *“We're delighted that the team at Golcar United have pledged to donate a portion of ticket sales from this year's 'Party on the Pitch' to our charity. The funds raised at this event traditionally go towards supporting the football club, so it's an incredible gesture that they have chosen to help The Kirkwood this year.

“The club has a deep rooted commitment to the local community, just like our charity, and we can't wait to work with them on what is all set to be another amazing event.

“The Kirkwood is facing some difficult financial challenges right now, and we need the support of our local community more than ever. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ben and everyone at the club. We are looking forward to celebrating alongside you all at Party on the Pitch a fantastic occasion where the entire community can come together, enjoy themselves, and make a real difference.”
