Elaine Holroyd raises incredible £8,500 for The Kirkwood

Elaine Holroyd raised an incredible £8,500 for The Kirkwood last month at her very own Get Together, helping to raise vital funds to support more people affected by limiting illnesses.

Elaine, who has being diagnosed with cancer twice in the past few years, is currently receiving support from The Kirkwood. Last month she held a huge event at the Roberttown Community Centre in the middle of the village. The day was a great success with plenty happening at the fundraiser.

A virtual dog show was held, there were also cake stalls, a local beer stall and a tombola. A raffle was also held, and all these things came together to raise an incredible amount of money for The Kirkwood.

On the event Elaine said: "The day was so special because it raised vital funds and gave something back to the people who helped me and many others suffering from life threatening diseases.

"The Kirkwood are not just here to help you die, they are here to help you live and cope with cancer and various other long-term illnesses."

Elaine and four of her family members bravely took part in a head shave as part of the event, helping to boost funds on the day. It was an emotional moment for the family and everyone who was there to witness it.

Elaine added: "We did a similar thing seven years ago when I was first diagnosed with cancer. We raised £5,500 for Cancer Research. However, this time we were looking to raise funds for The Kirkwood.”

Finally Elaine spoke passionately about The Kirkwood and what we mean to her, she said: "We couldn't have managed without The Kirkwood. They helped us emotionally and helped us sort out our finances. That was the biggest thing, The Kirkwood looked after my family, they supported them. Yes, I'm suffering with cancer, but it's the family members that also need support.”
