Community Spirit Shines in Holmfirth as 1014 Bar & Restaurant Raises Over £11,000 for The Kirkwood
Over the past year, 1014 Bar & Restaurant in Holmfirth, Huddersfield, has proven itself to be more than just a local hotspot, it’s become a vital partner in helping to raise funds and awareness for The Kirkwood, a charity dedicated to providing care for patients and families across Kirklees.
Thanks to the unwavering support of the team at 1014, and in particular the tireless efforts of Jayne Coxhead, the venue has raised in excess of £11,000 to support The Kirkwood’s work in the local community. This incredible total has been achieved through a vibrant calendar of events including festive favourites such as ‘Tea with Santa’, fashion shows, a ‘Harvest at Home’ celebration, and regular quiz nights, all hosted at the popular Holmfirth venue.
Fundraising has also been strengthened through collaboration with The Kirkwood Holmfirth Support Group and a close partnership with the charity’s retail shop in Holmfirth, managed by Maria Korodi. The close working relationship between Jayne and Maria has been instrumental in the success of these efforts.
In addition to fundraising, 1014 has offered generous wider support. In December, they once again hosted The Kirkwood’s annual Christmas meal for volunteers. This year, 26 volunteers enjoyed a complimentary three-course festive meal at the venue, in recognition of their dedicated service to the hospice.
More recently, 1014 hosted two of The Kirkwood’s exciting ‘Jail Break’ events, coordinated by the charity’s Community Fundraising team. The venue provided a fantastic base for these events, which together are estimated to have raised around £25,000 an astonishing achievement that highlights the power of local support and community involvement.
Further demonstrating their commitment, 1014 also opened their doors to over 40 local businesses as part of The Kirkwood Business Movement’s annual Christmas get together. Having joined the Movement themselves in August 2023, 1014 continues to champion the charity’s mission while connecting with other like minded businesses across the area.
Beverley Shaw, Business Movement Development Manager with The Kirkwood, shared her gratitude, saying: “We would like to thank everyone at 1014 and recognise our Holmfirth Support Group and Maria, our Shop Manager in Holmfirth, who has worked really well with 1014 and in particular Jayne Coxhead for her drive and support to us throughout the year.
“The Kirkwood looks after patients and families across Kirklees, including Holmfirth and surrounding villages. Fundraising such as this is helping us to deliver this care at a local level, supported by local people and businesses such as this.”
1014 owner Nigel Turner commented on the partnership saying: “1014 and myself are proud to be associated with The Kirkwood, who do amazing work in Holmfirth and across Kirklees. We look forward to supporting the charity going forward.”
The incredible partnership between 1014, The Kirkwood, and the wider Holmfirth community stands as a true testament to what can be achieved when people come together with compassion and commitment. Their continued support ensures that The Kirkwood can keep making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
