Boxing 4 You raises funds for The Kirkwood as fighters go toe to toe in White-Collar event

The Kirkwood have once again been represented at this year's brilliant Boxing4You charity event.

Set up and run by Left Jab Boxing, the white-collar show is one of the most hotly anticipated events in the calendar and over the last six years has raised in excess of £120,000 for charity. In that time an unbelievable £50,000 has been raised for The Kirkwood, with the funds directly helping local people. This year the boxers raised a fantastic £1968,96 towards patient care.

This year six lionhearted fighters took to the ring to punch and jab their way to victory.

In the run up to the big show, boxers went through a gruelling ten week free training programme at Left Jab Boxing. They were then paired up to fight at a black-tie event at Cleopatra’s Lounge in Huddersfield in front of an audience of 600 people.

Reflecting on the night Alysha, 28 from Deighton said: "I watched my friend do it last year and so thought I'd sign up for it this time around.

"I wanted to raise funds for The Kirkwood because when my grandmother Gwen was diagnosed with cancer, she spent a few weeks on the In-Patient Unit. The Kirkwood were amazing with her and with us as a family and that's why I wanted to help raise funds."

Leanne, 41 from Almondbury has her own reasons for taking part in the event.

She said: "My grandfather Kenneth was looked after by The Kirkwood in the last stages of his life. He was on a ward in a hospital that was specifically for patients from The Kirkwood. At the time the In-Patient Unit at Dalton was being renovated, he was cared for so fantastically well by The Kirkwood nurses. The Kirkwood also looked after a work colleague, Beryl Hinchliffe too. So, I've always had huge respect for The Kirkwood and everything they do.

"I've known Sean at Left Jab Boxing for a while and although I'd never been into boxing, I thought why not give it a go and so signed up. I've now done the event three times and it's just brilliant every time it comes around."

Event organiser Sean Reynolds, of Left Jab Promotions, said: "It was a great event with a fantastic amount raised for the chosen charities involved. The standard of boxing on display was remarkable along with the levels of fitness shown, proving a credit to the boxers and the coaching team.

"We’re very proud to be able to offer such a platform that helps raise much needed funds and for people to experience the benefits boxing can bring."
