Art and Generosity: Holmfirth Artweek Supports The Kirkwood

Holmfirth Artweek Raises £22,500 for The Kirkwood in a Fabulous Week of Success.

Since it began in 1967, Holmfirth Artweek has been a cornerstone of creativity and generosity. This annual event, held each July, showcases exhibitions across Holmfirth and the Holme and Colne Valleys, with proceeds from the event going to support charitable causes, including The Kirkwood.

This year, Holmfirth Artweek raised an amazing £22,500 for The Kirkwood, continuing its legacy of success. Lynne Onyskiw, Chair of the Holmfirth Artweek team, expressed how proud she was of the funds raised, highlighting the deep connection and admiration the committee has for The Kirkwood’s vital work in the community.

She said: "I asked the Artweek committee recently who had personal experience of the care given by The Kirkwood; around a third had friends or family who had received support over the years. Everyone was full of praise, especially for the outreach programs, which may not be so well appreciated by the general public. The care, consideration and help given by the staff (and volunteers) who work for the Kirkwood were really held in great esteem and could not be praised enough, had left lasting impressions from when you are going through a difficult, stressful and emotional time.

With a 24 hour helpline, there is always someone on the end of the phone to talk to outside of the palliative care nurses visiting at home or complementary therapies and counselling services to help, not just the patient, but the whole family and friends, if needed."

Lynne went on to say: "We are really proud and pleased to be helping to support such a great service for the people of Kirklees and hope it continues and grows for many years to come, much like Artweek has done over the nearly 60 years it has been running! Thank you to all staff and volunteers of the Kirkwood for what you do for us all when the need is great."

The Kirkwood would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the entire Holmfirth Artweek team for their incredible generosity.

We continue to care for hundreds of people across the Kirklees community with a life limiting illness. We can only do this with people’s very generous donations towards The Kirkwood, your donations make a huge difference with every penny going back into patient care.
