1,300 People, £80,000, and One Incredible Night: The Kirkwood Memory Walk

It’s been a week since you all attended one of the best nights of the year – The Kirkwood Memory Walk!

On Saturday 22nd of June, hundreds of walkers in bright green flooded the streets of Huddersfield to walk in memory of someone special.

Every one of you who attended, donated and supported the event has helped make a huge difference in the lives of those living with life limiting illnesses and their families across the whole of Kirklees!

Throughout the night, we got to speak to some of you and find out why you were taking part in The Kirkwood Memory Walk this year.

Two sisters, Maria from Moldgreen and Ikra from Aspley, joined the hundreds of walkers this year to remember some of their family,

Maria said “We have always wanted to do the Memory Walk it looks like a lot of fun.

“This year we are walking for our grandma and granddad. Our granddad passed away with cancer, and our grandma passed away around 15 years ago and we wanted to remember them by doing the memory walk.”

Ikra added “I also really wanted to do the walk this year in remembrance of my father in law who passed away with Covid three years ago. I have volunteered with The Kirkwood before, and I really wanted to do the walk this year for my loved ones.

Brendan from Huddersfield took part in this year’s walk with his two friends in memory of his friends and family “I always like to take part in The Kirkwood Memory Walk. This is my 9th year doing it. I like to do it every year for my family and friends who have passed away at The Kirkwood. It’s a nice way to remember them!

Brendan added: “We are excited about this year’s walk, there are a lot more people here than last year, and it’s great to see everyone joining in!”.

Lastly, Mary from Golcar was walking in memory of one of her friends who died at The Kirkwood.

“I am taking part in this year’s walk to remember my friend who passed at The Kirkwood.

“There is a fantastic atmosphere tonight, there are so many people who are taking part and I think it’s brilliant. I think The Kirkwood is a fantastic place, they do an awful lot for people in Kirklees, and you never know when you might need them.

We simply couldn’t do what we do without the help and support of each and every one of you. A massive thank you for taking part in this year's Memory Walk.
